Oisin Murphy

I would be amazed if this turned out to be anything more than a hobby -riding over hurdles is incompatible with being an international class flat jockey.I'd say a ride in the festival bumper will be as far as it goes.

It sounds like he's merely scratching an itch, a bit like the period when Johnny Murtagh took rides over hurdles out of boredom. I doubt he's going to go at it seriously.

Johnny was robbed of the World Hurdle in 2006 when riding the pint-sized Golden Cross, after Choc Thornton on My Way De Solzen made a good attempt to put his flat rival over the stands rail after the last. When the result stood, Johnny said that he had never been so disappointed in a long time about losing a race, but he did have the consolation of flying out the next day to Dubai.

Scratching an itch was exactly the phrase I was thinking of.Seamie Heffernan rode over hurdles one Christmas.

Arthur, it's established fact that the only problem with Choc's ride on MWDS, is that he didn't put Murtagh over the stands rail.

Apart from the show jumping, he’s done plenty of hunting recently over some pretty serious obstacles so maybe it will turn into more?

If he we to keep riding on the flat and over jumps he'd be humping a lot of lead round if riding decent NH horses

He's at least 10lbs lighter than the likes of james Bowen at his lowest weight......that's a bit much for trainers to take him seriously

Don't really understand your thinking there.
Do you think dead weight is more of a hindrance?

Noel O' Brien, nephew of Vincent farming at Churchtown told me he remembered Oisin riding work on the farm as a teenager; Keeping a tired horse dead straight on heavy ground at the end of a gallop.
It was one of the most impressive riding he ever saw from a youngster.
Jack Moylan , Pat Eddery's grandfather rode Fly Mask to finish second and third in Grand Nationals when his body weight was 7-12.
Graham Lee's biggest problem riding NH was keeping his weight as heavy as he could !
Wishing all well.

Don't know I would want to be backing him today. He's gone up 11lbs since Sligo and looked like he never got the trip last time. Good luck to him all the same
