Thedressage this afternoon was captivating, seeing horses jig and waltz to the music was absolutely fabulous!

If you haven't seen it, take the hint.

MR2

It was an incredible preformance and for those that knock dressage, I could harp on about darts, table tennis, synchronised swimming etc. For those of you who have pre-decided its the horse that does all the work - well you can say the same about motor racing and cycling. So lets make the Olympics just a celebration of running, walking and hop/skip/jumping?!

The dressage was superb IMO and for Team GB to have toppled both the Dutch and Germans who have dominated the game for so many years, was a fantastic result.

Not normally my cup of tea and I don't know enough to tell what is a good performance. However the ability of both horse and riders today was awesome and beautiful to see.

Isn't there a vaguely fascist aura about the whole dressage thing ( appears so to me anyhows).
All that goose-stepping ............... and that's just the horses !

Seems a pointless activity to me that in no way qualifies as a sport per se.

I have been immersed in all and every sport being shown at the Olympics, from the fastest man on earth to horses dancing to music. Wonderful, wonderful stuff, and in the words of a good friend.

"The world at large is hungry for occasions of state and shows of global peace that may show that we humans are one race and can celebrate. Times when we see growing divisions within civilization as a result of campaigns of abhorrence, occasions of global pomp aimed towards unity of mankind are great displays. Olympic opening and closing shows are just the kind of grand exhibitions of great coming together of man."

"Bringing all nations together at one point of the globe every four years is a benchmark from which we subconsciously measure how far we have come in making a better world. Some 'myopic' people think that Olympic monies should have been spent somewhere else, I ask 'where else can we display our collective humanity so forcefully.' These are few occasions when every penny is well spent and humanity comes together, untiring prayers of unity 'manifested' in kind . It is these very people who remain unhappy and bitter, they want to see global unity in their colors in their brand and packing. The different shades and colours of mankind are working together to create perfect harmony one day. There is no one straitjacket, single menu or a pack for mankind. Martians seeing this act of ours will observe that 'this is super peace,' this is what they will term as 'redemption of mankind's follies.'

The Olympic spirit is far in the front leading today, as it was in 1896, it has helped create a world identity which no scripture or religion could. Human beings are fittingly becoming ever more included."

But explain why darts and Formula one are discussed there instead of the remedial class section?

I see no reason why dressage is less of a sport than many others

Formula One is for those that find the 100 metre sprint a bit difficult to follow

I used to ride dressage competitively at international level. I have a lot of respect for anyone who can train at that level.

Also, using the phrase competitively above may be a bit optimistic...my horse had a all or nothing approach. He favoured nothing given half an excuse.

Ok, question. Of all the 'sports' in the olympics this past 2 weeks, which is least deserving of being there. I'm casting my vote on that ridiculous bmx crap.

Was just about to agree with you, Dave. Then I remembered synchronised swimming. But even that is more gruelling than 'Waving sticks about in the air with ribbons attached.'

Without doubt mens football because it represents...nothing

And in a way thats been highlighted by our team with the extraordinary achievement of retard Giggs managing to strike a sour note within the wonderful Team GB.
