Paul Carberry

I am sort of looking forward to the day when he becomes a "proper legitimate" trainer. I really do believe he has as much talent with horses as anybody around. Surely the day has come that it is no longer profitable for him to rely on handicap cheating.

The quality of horses in the yard has a lot to do with whether he can ever become "proper" or "legitimate" surely, Mel.

The man is a genius. Just my opinion though.

I have a simple question, why can't Carberry tuck himself up in bed at 10pm every night in Cheltenham?

A good few of the Irish jocks go out during cheltenham, some drink and some don't but stay out late. While it's great craic chatting to them and enjoying a bevvie, they migth be better served in bed. Although I do recall one jock a number of years ago in very poor condition after "falling" off one that day and went out and rode a grade one winner the next day, given it a great ride. So maybe it does help!!

In fairness to Carberry he's not so bad on the drink anymore but he's still stone mad, there's also a story about his old man slagging off Scu and francome for going to bed early before a grand national. Something along the lines of drinking the boots off them in the evening and riding the socks off them the next day.

You could write a book on the stories about him.I was in Galway the year he won the hurdle on stroll home. He told the other jocks at the off that he'd buy them all a drink at the finsh after winning. He duly won. They where all down in the hole in the wall drinking on him while he swung out of the bunting singing simply the best, great old night.

That's what makes him special!!

I don't think he was drinking (much anyway) but he had to be out riding at 7am and it's a long day anyway. Maybe he sleeps between 10am and 1pm. Don't know.

his autobiography should be good, even if he only tells 10% of the truth!

I think he is a conflictive man and as much as I hate his ride on Psycho, I still think he is the best jockey I have seen since Steve Cauthen.

Whether he is the best jockey is open to debate (I would love to have him ride mine, make no mistake) but the fact that he is a frighteningly gifted, natural and talented horseman cannot possibly be disputed.

He would have struggled to have been out drinking every night as the jocks do get regularly tested you know!
Well I know a prime candidate to have been tested at Uttoxeter last Sat but could you see them doing it?

Cantoris, whether you believe it or not they are pretty strict now at testing jockeys. They were testing at Plumpton on Monday and were chasing amateurs around for their samples.

Paul Carberry himself of course failed a drink test at Galway...so there are no favours done anymore regardless.

As for PC himself, super jockey, but his antics are well over played in the fact there are numerous like him (in terms of reputation regarding drinks and antics) but not fawned over by the press simply because their surname is not Carberry.

Also the guy is pushing on a bit now and kids, time to grow up a bit me thinks.

Which well known jockey was out on the Thursday night at Cheltenham, at 4am approx, singing that well known early 90's hit Mr Vain

Clue: May have ridden a well publicised stinker on the Friday mentioned in very close proximity to a post or two on this thread. Overplayed?! I don't know.
