Punchestown Sunday

HF is still a contender...would love to know how fit he was

I would be of the opinion that HF was very fit today. Much fitter than his reappearance last season.
As many above have already said, today's result not a huge surprise.
Small field, ground, first time out - I think WPM would have looked at this as their best chance at another Grade 1 this season.

yeah kinda reminds me of when kauto won the betfair chase in his last season. nicholls admitted he had him as fit as possible for it as there wouldn't be many chances left for him. didn't stop him going on and winning the king george though.

And who knows what might have happened at Cheltenham if he hadn't had that schooling fall...

Looks like a bit of a smash up in the bumper here
The unraced Falcon Crest opened up this morning at 7/1 today now into 10/11!

Anyone seen Grassy :D
The only bright spot in an otherwise disastrous three days punting in Cheltenham, where I landed a single blow (and that was a placed horse in the bumper on Saturday).

Naturally, I blame Digger for my shabby performance.

The gaff we use had changed ISP, and the only horse-racing site that wasn't blocked was My Little fu*king Pony. And the Racing Post paper is utterly hopeless as a form-study guide - mainly because if you look in the opposite direction for more than three seconds, someone has either nicked it, or stuck it in the bin. Grand plans to buy Racecards and Timeform Racecards fell by the wayside as soon as the first Guinness was hoovered. In summary, I have only myself to blame. It's not a meeting to bet at with one eye closed.

I don't know what to say about Hurricane Fly, other than I continue to hope for the best. The way that LKR was despatched would suggests that the form is top-class, which further suggests that both HF and Jez were fit enough, and the ground was probably a contributing factor (in favour of the former and against the latter).

I'm taking it one race at a time.

For mine, LKR set a decent pace but was largely ignored by the rest of the field, and The Fly beat Jezki for a turn of foot. Jezki's always been vulnerable, given an insufficient test, and it's a result we could see again and again in small field gd1's in his own country.
Come the big one however, those that think him a poor CH winner, or not good enough for a repeat, are likely to be severely disappointed

You were in the wrong company Nick, Tony , Mad Paddy and even the milkybar kids all cleaned up . Tony went through the card on Saturday and had a good Sunday. I must say the £20 for the grandstand seats on Saturday were worth every penny. On sunday the seats were free for members and the Fly going out to 15/8 capped a great weekend.

A great atmosphere at Punchestown today, Hurricane got some reception in the winner's enclosure. Jezki didn't look as fit as Hurricane today though.

Agree totally CL. Hurricane was a little deliberate jumping but still has some engine at the business end.
Marvellous reception afterwards by the public, who came out in great numbers.
By the way, Supreme Racing have a box at Punchestown this season.
For anyone who wants a taste of WPM greatness at close quarters could do worse than join up with Jim Bartley, Steve Massey and gang.

Would have to think DC will have enough gears for this lot

A leopard doesn't change it's spots...wouldn't be going mad backing Don C. He's burnt fingers and toes in the past.

A complete minefield. Has the look of a race which Baily Green wins at 12/1........to the sound of puking......mainly from my co-ordinates.

Don 6/4
Bob 7/4
FL 9/1
Lord 10/1
Texas 10/1
Alderwood 20/1
Baily Green 20/1
Rubi 25/1
Rathlin 50/1

Alderwood would be my thinking as an alternative at 20s.

With all the fun they had with Sizing over the years in buggering him at DownRoyal, surprised he never took in this race/

The jolly is most likely the most progressive horse in the race and his DR win looked useful.

Schooling trip for LW, FL is not the horse of old, Alderwood looks a hound these days

Texas Jack for me e/w

Agree about Don Cossack. Will take a bit of beating here.

Alderwood big enough price though to be interested in following him home. Also a run under his belt. Not worried Texas will need the run?

How many Gold Cup winners start 10/1 on their seasonal return?! Was the GC Really that bad?

Lord Windermere will just be starting off with the bigger picture in mind Aragorn. This trip not ideal either for him.
