The 3 mile hurdle is race of the week for me and what these end of season festivals should be about - novices progressing to take on older horses.

Blazing Bailey v Kazal and the intriguing presence of Cooldine and Venalmar. I have a high regard for Aitmatov as well. Super race.

Hard to know what to make of two miler, a lot of horses who've had difficult seasons.

an interesting race. not quite my race of the festival but it is nice to see novices take on their seasoned counterparts. I think Kazal might just have enough for BB. of the novices, cooldine's step up in trip is intriguing.

in the novice chase, i reckon Thyne Again is a weak favourite and i'd be willing to lay him

Very interesting race alright. Blazing Bailey looks a worthy favourite but I can't be having Cooldine so short at all. Very progressive horse though he is, he has it all to do on the formbook, and virtually all his form is with cut in the ground. At around 5/1, I would be looking to take him on win and place.

Can't help thinking that Catch Me is overpriced. Far from guaranteed to get the trip I admit and an iffy jumper at times, his form is of a very decent standard in this race and if he gets the trip, I can't see him out of the first three. At 25's he's worth a few quid each way IMO.

What do you make of the novice chase tommorrow, Bobbyjo (particularly the Burke horse)?

Im very fond of the horse but thought he patently ran like needing a trip further at Cheltenham and two miles around this track should be sharp. Combine that with end of busy season and I'd be worried. Then again, none of the opposition would particularly overawe me either. A few soft ground specialists in there also short of best trip. Wishwillow Lord is arguably the value.

Gut feeling is that it's a race to watch.

I think Blazing Bailey can continue a good festival for the English raiders. I don't think he shows his best form at Cheltenham in March for some reason, and the blinkers at Aintree seemed to be the missing piece of the jigsaw. Banker material.

In the bumper Del Rio of Jim Dreaper's catches the eye at 16/1. He was only 8 lengths behind Endless Intriuge on debut (finished 2nd in the Grade 1 bumper yesterday). Must have every chance of finishing in the frame.

In the opening heat I am prepared to take a chance on Theatrical Moment finally fulfilling the potential shown as a bumper horse. The O'Neill yard was in a mess when he was trying to win his novice hirdles in late 2007, and with a break under his belt, and the yard in much better form, he looks a snip at 8/1. COnsider what price he would be if he had won a few by now?

Perce Rock and Equus Maximus are the two I like today. They are both short enough in the betting in dirty looking races so minimum stakes just to keep the interest.

I fancied Perce Rock as well initially as he by passed Cheltenham and Aintree and he avoided hard races there, but with Pomme Tiepy running respectably the other day, there seems there is still life in Mullins' Chasing mares and J'Vole's presence in the line up puts me off backing Perce Rock on gronuds of the weight concession and the rude form of the Mullins yard this week.

I will be backing Perce Rock in the Grade 1 novice chase.

I have put a line through all his rivals for one reason or another. I had also put a line through him, but his line was less thick than the lines I had put through all his rivals.

So I will have a small bet.

Catch Me and Venalmar catch the eye pricewise in the World Series Hurdle, but I am worried about O'Grady's form. And also worried about the form in the 2m5f race at Cheltenham not being too hot.

My bets today will be Perce Rock, who as already said my benefit from missing out on travels to the UK, Wonderkid, who i think should be fav for the Cross country race, and Pandorama who i was very taken with last time out.

Lodge Lane is the bet of the day i feel over at Perth, up against Tazbar i know, but i feel it has a touch of class and will be hard to beat.

I am completely against you there Del - I rate Tazbar and he is my max bet today (ie if I am up play up the winnings by then or if down win it all back!).

I have a suspicion Lodge Lane prefers softer going whereas Tazbar loves good ground. Also, I remember backing Lodge Lane at Fontwell this season and thinking he looks less than straightforward so I wouldn't want him on my side in a tight finish.

He is quirky alright, but he got the job done all the same. I wont be put off!!

I wouldn't want Tazbar in a tight finish either after getting stung at Aintree. I know he won by a short head at Doncaster, but it seems his jockey is banned from ever using the whip on him.

At Punchestown I am going with nothing very original today. Kalahari King, Garde Champetre, Perce Rock and Blazing Bailey all seem to me to have a bit to spare over their rivals.

I don't like Garde Champetre with 12-7 on his back. There are few genuine contenders and jockeyship plus the ability to deal with the course are definitely more important than the odd few pounds weight difference but it's still 12-7 over four and a bit miles - He has a fair bit to prove that he can do that to be worth taking 9/4.

I'd Ivoire de Beaulieu or Freney's Well against him.

I'm in agreement with del boy - Tazbar didn't looked great at Aintree; in the paddock and on the track he looked like a horse to me who had gone off the boil. He didn't look that great in his coat, as though it was going, and he ran in a similar fashion - he was never really going.

Lodge Lane is certainly quirky - remember how badly he hung in the Festival bumper? - but he has some talent. Dartnall does well with horses he sends up here (if not quite as well as Twiston-Davies!) and he is my pick in the race.

I'm told - from a very, very reliable source - that Pacha D'oudaries will scoot up in the last at Perth

I have gone large

All I can do is pass on the message

Cheers for that Bobbyjo..will dive in now.

Very Happy with Lodge Lane. Made a profit on the day, but it could have been oh so much better if Wonderkid had gone on!

Well done Del Boy - more than can be said for me. Managed to claw back some of the reverses at Great Leighs of all places (Choc Caramel) - what a khazi that looks!!!

I must say I was gutted to be beaten by Lodge Lane in a tight finish of all things!!!

Its not the first time a northern trained sequence horse has been found wanting when upped in class and Tazbar looks like another one to add to the list.

Old Carberry got some stick off Matt Chapman for not kicking on on Wonderkid - you have to wonder would the result have been different? He is an infuriating jockey at times - when it comes off he looks the dogs bo**ocks, but as with today, when it doesn't favouite backers are left cursing.

I wonder will Harchibald deliver tomorrow for him?

Bugger, sorry about that Nicholls yoke........the confidence was genuine. The source would have been riding him if he weren't at Punchestown.
