Davy Condon
(Healy Racing Photos) Jockey Davy Condon is reported to be stable and moving everything following a heavy fall from Flaxen Flare in the conditions hurdle at Cork today.
Condon reportedly regained consciousness shortly after the fall and Dr Tom Purcell, Turf Club medical officer, reported at 4.45pm “Davy Condon is stable and moving everything now. Initially he couldn't move but had full movement within ten minutes.

“He has an possible thoracic fracture of his spine and has been taken, by Dr Kevin Brennan, to Cork University Hospital for scans.”

Horrible news.

I sincerely hope they are wrong about him having a thoracic fracture as very few people fully recover and apparently it also shortens life expectancy dramatically.

Can't believe the Dr. saying this without knowing for sure, his family must be worried sick.

Any further news on Davy?

Lat I heard is he has 3 cracked vertebrae which will take time to heal.

The BHA or whoever is in charge should pull that medical officer of theirs over the coals and get rid of the idiot

Get well soon DC

From irish-racing.com about four hours ago:

Davy Condon is undergoing further examination in Cork University Hospital following his fall from Flaxen Flare on Sunday.

It is already known he fractured three vertebrae in his back when the Gordon Elliott-trained evens favourite tumbled at the second-last flight when holding every chance in the Online Ticket Sales At corkracecourse.ie Hurdle at the Mallow venue.
"Davy is still in hospital where they are still doing investigations on him, but we know he has three fractured vertebrae in his back," said Dr Adrian McGoldrick, senior medical officer for the Irish Turf Club.
"More likely than not they will be treated with a brace for three months to support the back."As they are still doing further investigations we don't have the full picture yet."

Fingers crossed.

You might have a point, Tanlic, about the doctor being indiscreet but I don't think the BHA will be getting involved.

It was a horrible fall. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Was there a stewards about it? Looked like the winner jumped across him when I saw the race live but understandably they didn't show the incident again.

They may have had a look and I thought the same until I watch it again. They were at least 2 horse widths apart when they took off at the hurdle.

If you do watch it again ATR in full screen just before the hurdle when Plinth comes upside Davy's horse turns his head and seems to be looking at Plinth and barely takes off at the hurdle.. He virtually just trips over it and was half way down before getting to the other side.

Looked very much like he just lost concentration for a moment and that is probably why he was wearing blinkers

Haven't watched it back but I'll take your word from it. Flaxen flare looked awkward jumping the hurdle either way.

Good news he expects to be back in 4 months.....they don't get any tougher than these NH lads...fist chance they get thy'e back in the saddle.
