Coming over to Ireland next weekend for a week's worth of racing and stable visits, staying in Abbeyleix near Port Laoise.

Is there anything of note near there worth a visit ?

Morrissey's Bar in Abbeyleix is a well known spot.

If you're passing close to the Rock of Cashel it's worth a detour, for example if you're going to Thurles next Thursday.

Thank's Grey, we're there the week after at Wexford (Sat), Galway(Sun), Naas (Mon), Punchestown (Wed) and Clonmel (Thurs)

We've been to the Rock of Cashel and Thurles on a previous visit.

If you are going to Clonmel - there are some good restaurants in a 20 mile radius. I would be available for a bite if you were at a loose end.

Appreciate that but unfortunately our schedule is such that we need to go back to Abbeyleix straight after the races as it is our last night and we have guest speakers arranged at our dinner. Be more than pleased to buy you a drink if you're coming to the races though.

Wexford is a nice place to potter round and it has some inviting looking bars on the main street. A walk on the prom at Salthill would show another side to Galway. Kilkenny is one of the nicer towns in Ireland and has some fine bars and restaurants if you have someone to drive you the rest of the way to Abbeyleix on your way back from Wexford.
