Hi Guys and Girls.

I am certainly not one for begging for money, but for anyone interested I have decided to do a 2km run in Windsor for Cancer Research in July this year. Not quite a marathon I know, but it's a start!

The website address is:

http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/kathyanderson

I am already in training by doing a 2.5 mile walk (march) twice a day, with Barney currently dragging me up the hilly bits.

I have about 10 weeks to get fit - and Barney and my boyfriend are absolutely convinced I can do it!

Please note, I plan to run it, not walk it!

Thanks
Kathy

1) A quick team talk with Barney (complete with funny hairstyle) explaining the route and importance of timings...

2) Off for a brisk walk (uphill in places) to do a minimum of 5000 steps.....things are looking good.

3) Barney has a quick 40 winks in the car - lightweight!! :D

2km? Is that all? 10 weeks training and it should be a piece of cake to go round twice or more!! Best of luck.

It's a fun run/walk Paul not a proper marathon or half marathon. I am currently getting fitter anyway. You can't help it when you have a young, energetic dog to walk twice a day. I am doing in excess of 10,000 steps a day, and have been for the last 3 weeks so (hopefully) I will be as fit as a very fit flea come July!

Actually Paul you are right, it's actually 5km, which is approx 2 miles. I got my miles and Km's mixed up... it's late.

Kathy, sorry, couldn't edit the 'r' to an 'R' in the heading for you! Two clicks is nowt - I'd let Barney do 10k instead, while you watch from the chase car. I love his hairstyle: he's been watching 'There's Something About Mary', hasn't he?

You are in for a shock, Kathy. 5km is over 3 miles and that is a decent run. Good luck!!

I've got my pedometre thingy now PDJ, so we are going to measure exactly how far 5km's is. Perhaps my OH was telling me it was only 2 miles so not to freak me out too much in the pub last night, where I hatched this cunning plan.

Anyway, what's a mile for such a great cause.... 2 miles, 3 miles, when you get as fit as I am going to be, it will be just be a walk in ther park.... but not literally I hope.......

Thanks, Songsheet - I will! :)

I am pretty sure it's 5km's. :D

The training is going fine. This morning I managed the .1068559611866706 of the mile bit without stopping!

Good luck with it Kathy. I did the race for life a couple of years ago and if there's one bit of advice I can offer it's not to go out on the drink the night before!

Thanks Triptych. I have organised to have someone with a (very) large G&T waiting for me at the finishing post instead. B)

Yep, I qualify for the old bit BtB, but weighing in at just over 8 stone and standing at 5' 4" in my socks is hardly what I would call a big unit. I do want to be able to run it though and not walk it like many do - hence a bit of stamina training is now required.

I am just back from a wonderful week break in The Lake District where I kept up my average of 15,OOO steps a day, everyday in preparation for my 3 mile (ish)run in July. OK, some of the steps were in and out of the pubs, where OH loved sampling all the wild and wonderfully named local brews, but we were walking all the same. B)

We enjoyed some fantastic weather, and Barney had the time of his life. He was welcomed into most pubs and pub gardens which is always a bonus. One of the many highlights was visiting Cartmel, which is a really lovely place (and has some great pubs), and as you may know has a racecourse. The racecourse is open to the general public as they only race about 7-8 times a year, where you can freely walk your dog, go for a walk in the nearby woods, and there is even a bridle path right across the track. I am only just back, but later I will try and post up some of the photos.

On my return I was also thrilled to see I have very nearly reached my target of £500 for my Race For Life - infact, I am only £30 short, although I know there are people yet to contribute. I have been sent cheques too by those that for some reason were unable to contribute via the website and from people, like my Dad who do not have a computer!

For those on this site that have already sponsored me, and you know who you are, a massive thank you. :)
