I know there's been a few risque names in the past but if anyone can come up with the stories behind horses' names would be good, either humorous or not. After seeing My Tent Or Yours, then Your Tepee Or Mine run in the last two seasons I note we have a horse called My Wigwam Or Yours running in a bumper at Ludlow today. What were all those about ?

Presumably this famous song has something to do with it:
I'm the Sheik of Araby,
Your love belongs to me.
At night when you're asleep
Into your tent I'll creep.
And the stars that shine above,
Will light our way to love.
You'll roam this land with me,

I'm the Sheik of Araby.
Oh, I'm the Sheik of Araby
And all the women worship me.
You should see them follow me around. Not bad.
Even wives of all the other sheiks,
They beg to kiss my rosy cheeks
And that ain't bad -- in fact, that's good, I've found. I'm a cad!
When I lay down to sleep
I'm counting girls instead of sheep
From my harem I can't scare 'em out. Why should I?
They're beauties from all races,
And some have pretty faces.
I'm the Sheik who knows what love is all about.

Grey you have not put up the words of "I'll Take You Home again L'Escargot "yet!
Never had you marked out as a Louis Prima type of guy Grey

I realise there is another thread for recycled racehorse names but lazily I will mention here of yesterdays winners
Producer ( former Prix Vermeille? winner who was dam of a few million dollar plus yearlings)
Little Wonder (winner of Derby 1841) won Grade 1 in Aus
Proverb ( Barry Hills stayer, 3rd Ascot Gold Cup 74 and Rathbarry sire) won mile Aus or NZ

Roger the Butler was (allegedly) something to do with a certain member of the aristocracy being caught in a compromising position with a young lady by the butler of the household.

I did think the Queen's Golden Stream wasn't the least risque named horse I'd seen.

She did have a colt by Dylan Thomas out of Fictitious which I didn't understand her not calling Llareggub. Instead it was called Bookmark, but never ran so might as well have called it Llareggub.

One of her ancestors had a decent handicapper called Stff Dick. I don't think you'd get away with that one now.

Guy from Sunderland area Brian Morton registered a horse called Kamal Sidique with Wetherbys..............originally, for a laugh, he tried to name it Tafukwiu which the accepted then rejected 24 hours later.......would love to have heard the course commentator get his lips round that one.

WSixtimes was owned by some mad gambler. It stood for Went Well Will Win When Wanted and it did.

When I worked at Weatherbys there was a very innocent girl on the naming team. She passed the name "Jack Mihoff", but it was picked up on the second check sadly.

Can anyone tell me where all these Minella names in NH racing come from? For some reason i dont like them.

John Nallen -- owner of the Minella Hotel, Clonmel -- uses the prefix "Minella" for all his horse purchases.
Hotel Minella is a "racing" and coursing hotel, and also sponsors the Minella Oaks at Powerstown Park.
(His father -- Jack Nallen, R.I.P -- owned and trained Colonel Perry to win the 1958 Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park).

Julie Cecil was always trying to get spoonerisms past the censors - her greatest success probably being the good filly Mary Hinge.

I'm sure Silky was the name of Nijinsky's first runner.

I remember Chil The Kite too - started off in handicaps, I think.

Cecil trains one called Tickled Pink. I'm sure Hobbs also trained a colt of that name to win the Stewards Cup (as a 3yo?).

Geespot was passed. The secretary to the naming committee (? something likebthat, it was a long time ago!!) came into race planning to ask us all if we thought it would be ok, he said that the old blokes on the committee wouldn't understand it. We all thought it was brilliant, especially given the sire and dam....
