Where do they get them from nowadays ? It seems that to justify their existence they have to post some silly article every week - normally under the heading " Another View " .

Today's drivel from Maddy Playle takes the biscuit - suggesting that the Baring Bingham ( the Sun Alliance or RSA Hurdle to many of us ) should be scrapped like the Golden Miller chase - referring to whether it is meant to be a training ground for the Ryanair and it failing to be so.

The history of the race and its function as the race for non 2 mile novices completely escapes her . It was inaugurated in 1971 and has been one of the most interesting races - just look at the last five winners and those from the past - if you have seen it you won't forget Sabin du Loir challenging Dawn Run and beating her comfortably with West Tip in thir - the crushing victory of Faugheen etc . It has turned out Champion Hurdlers and high class horses across the spectrum

If a novice race needs to go it is the newcomer . The Albert Bartlett is a gruellling horror of a race . Many a promising novice has bombed and never been the same again - Brae Hill , Hillcrest etc .

Maddy Playle is certainly not the only one who serves up endless drivel. I’m currently getting 4 or 5 emails a day from the RP. Many of them are stuff I really don’t care about while the others include links to articles which may be interesting but are usually hidden behind a paywall

I thought the same Ardoss I simply thought this has to be rage bait and I only saw the title. The good horses that have won it down the years shows its not going anywhere. I wouldn't be against the Potatoe race going but there are mares novice races I'd see go first and tbh and if we're talking about the Turner's hurdle as it is now I'd rather see all mares races go , and even if push came to shove I'd rather see the Stayers hurdle go to save it.

I couldn't agree more - Maddy Playle is by no means the worst, but the Albert Bartlett is the newcomer among the novice hurdles so if they are worried about dilution why not call to scrap that?

Or the mares' novice hurdle, as Danny suggests.

I thought John Randall's fine Aga Khan obituary today was in many ways a sad reminder of how far writing standards have fallen at the Racing Post - who else among the host of millennials and Generation Z-era on the RP staff could have penned that with even 1% of the gravitas and authority with which Randall writes?

Certainly not their schoolboy editor, now claiming praise for fighting for punters rights when he took literally years to wake up to the dangers.

Having once (1987-1994) worked there, I know EXACTLY what the Racing Post is like and pawras isn't wrong.

The paper was originally owned by Sheikh Mohammed and bookmakers and bloodstock companies are the biggest advertisers.

Little surprise, therefore, to see who gets given the easiest ride by the Racing Post editorial team and hardly difficult to work out why.
