I was asked by an capall to delete the topic that he posted about Radcliffe and I have obliged.

The reason that he wished it to be removed was that it had been altered to read differently to that which he had written.

I had messages of mine changed, yet nothing was done about it either. I just had to accept it. <_<

Not this Mod, either.

I may be off-air a bit, you'll be glad to know, as Mum has added a fifth 'F' to her appalling form this weekend, and broken her right hip. She's in hospital with her right wrist in plaster, and her left hip waiting for a replacement, rambling a bit under morphine. In that respect, a bit like this forum...

I will never edit anyone's post without contacting them. I haven't yet done so and hope to not to have to. I will remove posts immediately that enough forumites deem to be offensive, and say I've done so.

Erm... either you're going bonkers, or I am, Brianski: your posting on here says that AC asked for the Radcliffe posting he made to be taken off as it had been altered to read differently to that which he had written. I've taken that to mean that 'someone' rewrote AC's posting, and AC isn't best pleased to have had someone rewrite his topic for him. And it wasn't you, and it wasn't me... honestly, I'm going for a lie-down.

Are we saying that somebody actually managed to alter someone else's posting?

A moderator or a hacker?

Couldn't AC have just edited it back to what it was and a watch kept on the thread?

It was an innocuous thread topic, smart arsed in design like many of my posts (I can't help myself!) - but hopefully had a semblance of wit and tease about it.

A moderator chose to edit the tagline. I have two problems.
1. That my thread which in no way contravened the rules of the board was edited. Why should this be?
2. That the editing materially altered my intent with the thread and the flow of same.

So I asked Brian, and another, whose values are more in tune with mine on censor ship to remove it altogether.

It seems that I am not an isolated case.

You can probably understand why I get peed off of this forum at times (and then I react and promptly get banned for a week), although people continually tell me I am just plain paranoid. <_< In a way, I am glad someone has done this to AC as well, to prove that it was not my imagination.

The deletions and alterations were probably done just to wind me up, to give people reason to get me banned. It will probably work eventually.

Krizon, you poor thing, and your poor Mum. I really hope they can sort her out soon, as this must becoming unbearable for you both.

Please send her my kindest regards.

And it wasn't me, either! You'll rarely find me checking up on the forum during fine weekends. This one saw me moving around 5 tonnes of 10ml chippings for my new gravel garden, going to Bath to have my hair cut and seeing son and heir, moving 17 dry cows from one field to another and getting carted by a stroppy Belgian Blue pedigree heifer who we hadn't halter-led for some weeks and going to a great lunch-party for my friend's daughter, who was celebrating her 21st birthday.

So no, pruning topics has not been on my To-Do list.....

Sounds like a great weekend Songsheet! :) It's clearly the moderators that do have a life that are less likely to be spending their time altering other peoples threads on this forum.

Cheers for the kind thoughts, Kathy, and all who PM'd. I didn't mean to hijack AC's concerns, just wanted to make clear I don't have the time and/or inclination to fart around with editing. A complete cull of topic and forumite with an AK-47 is more my style... :D

Mum's being operated on this a.m., so fingers x'd. I'm aware of the high mortality rates following such ops for the old and infirm (which she has very much become this year), so the main priority on my mind at present is to sort out convalescence for her after (if) she comes out of hospital, which should, I think segue into a care home environment. So far, I've been around to find her, but I'm not on 24/7 watch (though with hourly inspections over 12 hours, almost there). I am SO having myself shot at 75!!

Hope that today passes safely for your mum krizon.

I find it disturbing to note, that a thread can undergo a complete make over with a bit of clever pruning.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Derek, they're much appreciated. Whatever the outcome, now or later, at least she's had an interesting, full life, pretty much doing what she's wanted, so no regrets at all on that score.

Yes, I agree about wilful editing. I did mention, when I took up modding, that perhaps Mods should just come on for six months at a time, and certainly no longer than a year, until they're replaced. That gives everyone a fair chance to moderate and also means no-one gets stale. Julie seems happy enough with that idea, so maybe we should run it past Col to get his feelings on it. I realize change for change's sake isn't always a brilliant notion, but perhaps consideration of this is due? Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions, folks?

In my experience, I think there is probably only one moderator that has become stale..... <_<

I'm happy to do six months on/six months off if that suits the majority on here?

My suggestion is there should be a 'pool' of around 6-8 mods, four active at any one time. Then, if a mod is away for a spell or wants a breather, Col has a couple of reserves he can call on immediately, without having to fanny about!

I'll do it Songsheet. Revenge would be so, so sweet. <_< I could moderate just for a week whilst one of you were on your jollies and you wouldn't believe the changes there would be to certain threads in that time!

I have moderated on Escorial's forum for over 2 years without a hitch, so I am fully qualified :D

OK, I was only jesting, but how pleased am I that someone started this thread. At least now when certain people eventually do get me booted off of here, a few more will know a bit more of what was really happening "behind the scenes"!

Relative to the happenings in Pakistan, or at a more local level, the trauma that Krizon's poor mother is undergoing, my complaint doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

However, in the small microcosm of the world that is this place, I think whoever the censor is should give us some guidance as to what informed their action.

To contextualise it a little more. Garney posted a new topic that reads..........

ACCORDION ETOILE
Likeable.

If one of the censors didn't agree with Garney's assessement and changed the topic to

ACCORDION ETOILE
Disappointing.

This would be a clear breach of privalege.

This is exactly what happened to my thread.
