This whole case seems to revolve around his deportation (and he came here on a false passport) to a country (jordan) which is accused of torture

Perhaps if you lived in an area where terrorism is an ever present threat, then you would feel alot happier about him not being free

He should have been deported or charged with incitement to violence or race hatred

Im all for freedom of speech and thought that certain prosecutions (such as the now overturned lyrical terrorist) have been a bit over the top, but this is someone who is almost certainly operating at a far higher level and is a known strong influence (if not yet a proven organiser) of those that desire the eradication of all non muslims.

I didn't express any opinion about this individual either way. I am curious to know how it is/was legally possible to keep him detained without charge for six years.

I thought only the Americans were doing that kind of thing, in Guantanamo.
