Apologies if we already have a thread for this.

The Long Distance Hurdle on Friday wouldn’t look out of place at the Festival, if they all stand their ground.

McFabulous, Thyme Hill, Sam Spinner, Summerville Boy, Paisley Park and Lisnagar Oscar all entered, and possibly Roksana is the only real absentee you think might have run.

I guess it depends on how he goes in the Stayers. If they won it presumably they’d want to defend.

Timeform on Main Fact:

The manner of this success suggests he may yet have more to offer, too, and he suddenly looks a potential Stayers' Hurdle contender in an open year, with only McFabulous and Sire du Berlais having enhanced their claims among the bigger names in that division so far this season.

The BHA handicapper has raised him to 155, up 7lbs. I think I forecast 8bs in the aftermath of Saturday's race. Not many above him now on ORs, I don't think.

Timeform must have missed Fury Road’s season opener. I think he’s commands a bit of respect in staying hurdles this year (though is probably up against it with Honeysuckle in the Hattons Grace this weekend).

Fury Road's OR is 151

Looking at Friday's race, only the following are rated higher than 155:

Paisley Park 167
Sam Spinner 162
Lisnagar Oscar 160
Summerville Boy 156

How many of them can be deemed to be improving 7lbs from race to race?

Trainer says heavy ground is important to him!

Answer = none of them.

I agree.

Fury Road might and Sire De Berlais probably will improve 7lbs by March.

I'm hoping MF can improve another 7lbs by the Long Walk (one of the possible next races mentioned for him) and a further 3-5lbs by mid-March.

No harm in dreaming :)

I was automatically drawn to Thyme Hill for this after the Albert Bartlett. He and Fury Road would be the two I want on my side atm.

All stood their ground. Dear lord, this is some race.

I'm sure I saw a quote from Elliot after his last win that he would skip the Hatton Grace as the race would come too soon, I believe the article was on the sporting life.

I see the Racing Post have seen fit to call the Newbury Long Distance Hurdle the "race of the season".

Presumably they mean "to date", and even then they'd be wrong.

#shitbox

I backed Thyme Hill a couple of months ago for the stayers hurdle. Market starting to sort itself out for tomorrow now after that hideous opening price for Mcfabulous. Hoping for a decent run for TH but stable form a concern. I think the fav is vulnerable.

Even with stable form, I’ve talked myself out of Mcfabulous and gone with Thyme Hill.

Thyme Hill was, even before the Bartlett, said to be going the stayers hurdle. Had it not been for stable form, surely 5/1 is far too big given the issues with Paisley.

It may end up being a no bet race, but if Thyme Hill is still 5s tomorrow I may have a savour

I've landed on Honest Vic e/w today

Paisley Park is my view of the Stayers winner, but will surely come on bundles for the run

Mcfabulous may well be good enough but too short at 5/2

Hobbs form puts me off Thyme Hill

Summerville Boy…well Tom George, say no more and he should be added to the Twiston Davies / David Pipe thread…

Fascinating race. The plan is for the Long Walk after this all being well for TH. Whether he's good enough first time up today we shall see.
