Road to the Stayers Hurdle

Lovely day so far today.

Feel DO will be fuming with Vision Des Flos and how the first half of the race went

Good performance but with the extra stamina required in March and the uphill finish, minus the 3lb weight concession, I'd still want to be with Paisley Park for all Thyme Hill clearly has more scope for improvement.

I'm pleased to see the TV people going overboard about Thyme Hill. It looked to me like Paisley Park is the one to take out of the race. A perfect comeback without being given too hard a time of it. Other than that, the race was a complete joke.

Fvck alone knows what Power was up to on VDF but the fact that he made no effort to gee the horse along when they closed him down makes me think there was a problem.

So what's the craic on Honeysuckle versus Fury Road and Ronald Pump over 2M4F on Sunday. What do we think, is the jolly a steering job?

Thyme Hill did it well, but Paisley Park showed he still has something about him too.

Hard to be dogmatic about whether form will/won’t be reversed next time - just good to see two decent stayers expose last season’s Cheltenham form, for the fraud that it was.

There will hopefully be some good scraps between this pair, through the course of the 3m Grade 1 hurdles this season.

It may have been an upset but the winner hinted at something similar on Trials day and was well suited to the fierce end to end gallop, so looking at the current prices after today's race, I wouldn't want to be Paddy laying him at 50/1 for a repeat. That's a big over reaction.

On his day Lisnagar Oscar is around the 160 mark. He should be paying to get in the gate to watch a proper Stayers' Hurdle.

We've been here before, DO, but I couldn't have him close to 160.......probably won that Stayers running to no more than 155 (imo).......it was a kharsi of an event, with Paisley failing to give him running.

It's based purely on pumping Ronald, which I had on 157p going into it, so I can allow him it until ongoing circumstances convince me I've over-rated him.

The chances are whichever races he takes in he's going to be vulnerable to anything half-decent an probably worth taking on.

Quite interesting that the Class 2 3m handicap hurdle that followed was run nearly 5secs faster which adds to the view that it turned into something of a sprint and makes Paisley Park’s run all the more promising.

It turned into a sprint and I was delighted with Paisley Park. He's run a very good race and I couldn't be happier. We only raced for just over a mile, but in a way that's no harm as it was a nice introduction. It was a great step in the right direction after what happened at Cheltenham. We were chasing the winner down with a penalty and I look forward to meeting him on level terms - Aidan Coleman

It would be of mild interest (in a bri-nylon, dandruff-spattered way) to know where these 5s were lost.

Does anyone have the gumption/wherewithal/insider-knowledge to provide the figures?

My guess is that the first half of the race was very sedate, but probably picked-up considerably when VDF hauled himself to the front with a circuit to go.

Follow Graeme North on twitter his work on pace is easy to follow, coloured coded for imbeciles like you and me

You know me so well...

(At least I have the hair to have the dandruff :))

My guess - if I run out paint drying that needs watching during the week I might use the time to dig deeper - is that the big race was probably 15 secs behind before VDF went to the front and the closed by ten seconds in the final mile. The chances are Simon Rowlands, who isn't as follically unchallenged as I am, will put something up in a few days' time.

What time did Grassy start necking the Mcewans ?

I thought I started early but I’m Jamie Spencer* by comparison.

* He’s a short distance bumper jockey Nick
