Royal Ascot - Tuesday

Cynics guide to the St. James's Palace:

Dawn Approach: sent to Epsom by connections thinking they had nothing to lose and everything to gain. Everything to lose if the horse blows out again today though - a second fierce-tugging no-show would surely dent his value significantly (and might even impact his sire's reputation)? Wouldn't be here unless he was "still awesome."

Toronado: connections clutching at straws using a spoon-bit and changing yards desperately seeking to get the best out of him. Sneaking suspicion he might not get a strongly-run mile; his best performances have come quickening off slow pace in the Champagne and Craven.

Magician: Ready-made excuse appears soon after Dawn Approach confirmed to run in this, suggesting distress in the camp (and possibly the horse...). Unlikely to topple the Bolger horse.

Who needs form anyway?

For what it's worth I've taken 33's each way about Mshawish in the race. Interesting run in the Jockey Club - conceded first run before flattening out in the final furlong. That form entitles him to be shorter than a 33/1 shot for me.

I'll be following Pearl Secret even if it means falling off the cliff this season, starting today.

Dawn Approach I'm sticking with to prove Epsom was a one off.

I was really pissed off when Jonjo's Well Sharp missed Cheltenham and even more pissed off when I had a lousy 20 quid on him at York. Will back him again today for another lousy 20 quid just in case.

Ground shouldn't ride as fast as it did up at Edinburgh when Justice Day was just run out of it. Could win at a big price is my EW bet for today

Animal Kingdom far too free over the straight mile - beaten after two furlongs .

Farrhh surely would have hacked up judging by the proximity of Aljamaheer to Declaration of WAr good effort as it was by the latter .

Lovely prep by LIbranno for the Criterion hat trick !

Could there be a strip of fast ground down the near side?

Both Sole Power and War Command have appeared to be travelling much faster than those elsewhere.

Have just taken the 6s about Anticipated for that very reason, with his main market rival drawn right over on the farside.

Thriller for the SJPS - Toronado was undoubtedly unlucky but hell did Dawn Approach find close home .

One horse who I think needs to be held on to a bit more is Reckless Abandon - they should have got Mosse over from HK .

War Command mighty impressive but not all that sure how good the rest are .

Tiger Cliff would have needed to be Le Moss , Buckskin and Ardross rolled into one to win from there !

The sad irony is that anybody who saw the recent repeat of the interview with Sir Henry would have heard him say how the one thing he wouldn't tolerate was a jockey getting beat because he gave the horse too much to do in fear of it not seeing out the trip...

To be fair the jock's been in blinding form just recently and it was one of those things. Winner won well.

Indeed and evidently thrilled to find no hurdles in the way.

Should love to see Dawn Approach and Toronado slug it out again at Goodwood.

Harry Bentley's job as second jockey to Qatar Racing only appears to hold for lesser meetings - jocked off in favour of Murtagh on Extortionist and Jim Crowley rides Green Door tomorrow.

Dawn Approach would've seen out the trip at that pace. Pity Queally didn't have the judgement to see that.

:D

I was trying to be kind Reet as I didn't want to be seen as talking from the pocket - which of course I would have been.
