Ryan Moore was last night confirmed as the No 1 jockey to the Coolmore operation. The 28-year-old Englishman currently in Dubai, said: "I'm absolutely delighted with the appointment, and to be riding for John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith."
Moore has been a regular been feature on Irish Sunday flat meetings in 2012 and also partnered the high profile So You Think on his European campaign for his new employers. An appointment comes some what as a shock as up until now Magnier and his partners had maintained that they would not find an official replacement but merely use "the best available".It was widely believed that Aiden's son Joseph would be first choice this season after his stunning Group 1 success on St Nicholas Abbey in the Breeders Cip last November.
Aidan O'Brien, who trains the majority of the Coolmore partnership horses, said last night: "Ryan has already enjoyed plenty of success as part of the team at Ballydoyle and we are delighted to have him on board."
Bookmakers Paddy Power have responded to the news by stating they will refund all losing bets on the Irish Flat Jockeys Title should Ryan Moore go on to claim the prize. It will apply to all bets placed up until March 30th. Moore is now their 11/10 favourite with previous Ballydoyle incumbent Johnny Murtagh pushed out to 11/4.
