What the hell was La Pen doing yesterday at an impoverished council estate in North Paris canvassing for the multi-racial vote from those alienated by the socialist candidates?

Long shot comes to mind.

No - unless is was a life or death choice between her and the current bloke....

but Id want a lot to drink!!

(and so would she probably!)

It is Sarko -v- Sego according to the exit polls with Bayrou third and I am delighted to see Le Pen a well beaten fourth . Then again Sarko is very right wing and when mainstream parties are very right wing then extremists don't do well . It is no coincidence that the NF/BNP struggled when Thatcher was in power.

I would not vote Segolene by any means
she has a good presence but she is a carbon copy of Zapatero as a politician.

She is the worst president France can choose and would be very bad news for Europe if she were elected.

The second round will be won by Sarko by a 70%.

A person that think Sarko is very right wing is wrong and the reason for that is that he is very left wing and thinks anyone thinking different than him is a very right wing man.

Or alternatively only someone who was pretty right wing would think that Sarko wasn't .

Sarko has no chance of winning 70-30 . He is the most likely winner but by something like 53-47 . Sego will pick up the rump of the left . Sarko will get most but not all of Le Pen's votes . It depends on the 18.3 Bayrou votes.

Sarkozy? What's the ethnic origin of that name? Doesn't sound particularly French to me (says Miss Irma Blitzenkrieger of Neasden)...

But Gordon Brown is not English and Hitler was an Austrian. Even De Valera was an American. Surely Soumi could do the job?

You don't have to be English to be Prime Minister of 'Great Britain', you just have to come from one of the tribes of the federation. Or be called Disraeli.

The French guy that stayed with me in December/January couldn't shut up about her. Neither could his other little Francais' in QLD when I asked them who should win the French presidency.

Apparently she was a breath of "fresh air" in their opinion.

Done and dusted - it's the little guy! Actually, he really DOES look small! Full of ideas about cracking down on illegal immigration, getting closer to America, no new taxes... let's see how far he gets in a country famous for saying 'non!' to virtually everything!
