Some good races on the cards. The Tingle Creek and Becher Chase amongst them.

Any strong fancies?

Quite like God's Own myself in The Tingle Creek.

10 years since that Tingle Creek.

Yes, I'm actually off to Sandown and have been very organised in sorting out my selections today, rather than try to do it an alcoholic haze amongst 10 of my mates on the course. I do like the God's Own-Oscar Whisky-Somersby combo in the Tingle Creek. Like the look of Samstown in the "get-out-of-jail" 3.35, too.

The Henry the 8th looks a tricky one to call to me. 4 runners and hard to rule any out. Court Minstrel may prefer better ground but has a chance. Tough one to call.

Think I'll plump for Highland Lodge e/w in the Becher.

Would have to side with Holywell at Aintree.

Amore Alato could also interest me at Sandown.

Somersby looks overpriced to me at 9s. Hoping for a good run from Holywell but concerns about Jonjo stable persist

Sweet Deal looks interesting in the listed handicap hurdle at Sandown

A bit of a long shot and has been an expensive horse to follow over time but I can't let Mon Parrain go u backed in the Becher after the way he effortlessly breezed over those fences in 2011.

The big race looks a bit of a week renewal and quite open. Dodging Bullets looks a bit overpriced at 10s. He should improve for a decent run at Cheltenham and it's sort of a race with a good betting shape as Balder Succes ran poorly in the Henry VIII last year and God's Own looks overrated.

Days Hotel, Felix Yonger even Sizing could have taken this race in. It's winnable

Rebel Fitz too maybe but unsure on his status right now

Was hoping Twinlight would come over for this as he could have been interesting.

Of the others, Hinterland would have been of interest, but the fact he burst a blood vessel last time would give me some doubt. He could run well though.

The Tingle Creek is by far the best race of the day with more than a few having a good chance.

Balder Succes is favourite but I can't for the life of me see why.

Much has been made of the mistake Balder Succes made at the 3rd last but in truth Gods Own was always travelling better and he himself made a bad blunder 4 out.

I think it's staring us right in the face that Gods Own is the better horse and he should be favourite and I expect him to win and beat Balder Succes yet again.

Oscar Whisky stands in for SS but he would need to win on the bridle as he finds very little for pressure and it this trip I can't have him.

Hinterland and Dodging Bullets are Dodgy and look out of their league, can't have either of them in this.

Don't know enough about Harry Fry's or how he will run but he'll need to be very good to win this.

Third Intention is a classy animal but always finds one or two too good for him but he could run much better than his price indicates spring a surprise.

Somersby and 2 miles were made for each other but you would have to think he was as fit as a flea when contesting the Haldon.....can't see where the improvement will come from

Gods Own looks the best bet

Agree with Fist, and given the ease of his Haldon win, it's hard to see how God's Own could have been rated much lower. Probably has more scope for improvement than Balder Success too, as he's had only half his experience over fences.
He'll do for me, certainly against this field.

I agree with this and could see Third Intention running well.

Leviathan won with so much in hand LTO that he could have much to offer. A decent bet for me on this one. Am going to Sandown but will spend much of the time watching Aintree on TV. Highland Lodge and Persian Snow are my two fancies oop north.

a few interests over big twigs and little twigs

12.00 Aintree
Ballybolley is 5.3...and yet Last Supper is 12.0.....LS looks clear value after hammering that one 33 large last time they met.

1.00 Aintree
Distime
looks well in here even with +10 considering that was a 5/4 fav off this sort of mark over the little twigs a while back. 4.1 taken

2.40 Aintree
Ma Filleule looks near on best horse in race on ratings..but receives the handy 7lb..making it hard for anything to beat her here. 3.5 a gift

3.00 Sandown
Vukovar
hammered two decent markers with ease before Cheltenham..and has been conservatively rated imo...this one looks an exciting horse and could run these all into the floor..in a race where nothing stands out and Balder Success is the fav:confused:..we are all guaranteed value really. 8.8 taken.

I'll be very pleasantly surprised if Holywell wins today. I'm not into laying odds-against but I thnk he looks very opposable trying to give Ma Filleule the weight.

Have to add Oscar Time to this aswel
13 now but this has been a real veterans race the last few years, 2nd and 4th in the GN and Sam knows how to ride Aintree.

Can't see why Irish Saint is so short in the Henry VIII. I don't have much between them, and have rowed-in with Court Minstrel, who jumps nicely (for a novice), travels with plenty of zest, and has good track form.

Holywell is the biggest cert of the day, and 9/4 is a great price. This horse will win the Gold Cup.

Dunraven Storm is improving and has a good in chance in that race i think..i don't like Irish Saint that much..too in and out..Court Minstrel wants better ground and Vibralto has to reverse form with DS..which i'm not seeing..although at this game you can turn round by 50 lengths and someone will excuse it

I was on Mendip Express (who got a poor ride) but didn't mind losing out to such an admirable old beast (the horse, not fonz).

Well done, fonz!

PS - I thought there was a very interesting beaten horse to take out of the race (apart from Mendip).
