I seem to have gone days without a really strong fancy: the racing just isn't throwing anything up.I got a nice 9/2 winner yesterday from my alerts but wasn't really sure about the bet tbh.

It's the same today. Two of my alerts go: Groundbreaker (18.05 Winds) and Regal Reality (18.35 Winds) but I'm not sure about either of them. Groundbreaker looks like it's out of his class and I'm not sure at all the RR will like the ground.

My other two alerts are good old Orbaan (14.25 Good) and Mondammej (14.40 Bev).

I suppose I will do Orbaan since he does like the track, may well be able to avoid trouble and is still weighted to win. Previously, I would never have done him at 7f but he's blown that theory out of the water, hasn't he?

Mundammej is one who always does better in black type stakes races than handicaps. Today, he has a high draw and will need to come from behind: not the best. I'd still have a little ew saver on him, mind just in case.

Arecibo was a big disappointment lto at Ascot imo. He has developed a habit of breaking slowly and I'm not sure this is the best course for doing that. Quite a high draw, too.

My alert horse here (apart form Mundammej) is:

Existent. 2.40 beverly 9/1 Ew

I noted this one at Sandown two races ago at Sandown (Gp 3 g/f). He met trouble that day and went straight into the book. With that in mind, along with a low draw and an ability to lie up near the pace, I'll be siding with him.

On the subject of pace, I'd bet money on King Of Stars having an easy lead here. Hopefully mine can keep tabs on him and strike late.

Having written all this, I suppose Existent would be my strongest bet today and 9/1 looks a very nice ew price. A little ew on Mundammej, too but only as an 'insurance bet because I wouldn't want to miss it. I wouldn't think the course is ideal, mind.

It's funny isn't it?

I put the two Windsor runners and Orbaan in an ew trixie - three placed and a lovely profit and backed all three to small ew singles so they saved my rock solid ew bet which blew out - Existent.

Racing, Eh?

Groundbreaker put in an improved performance , I thought and I'd like to see if they put him into a handicap. I wonder what the handicapper will do. I think he's run 10Lbs better than his mark here.

Balding has been a nightmare this year. Groundbreaker is in my tracker as well and he insists on going for Group races he has no chance in. Same with Typewrite who was on a really nice mark after finishing behind Grand Alliance in a handicap at Donny at the start of the season - then he runs her in the Cheshire Oaks and she goes up a stone. Poor planning from a good trainer.

Yeah, always a bad one, that.

We'll have to look on Tuesday to see what rating he gets. Here's hoping the mark goes up just a couple of pounds, eh? I doubt it, though.

I suppose Balding is thinking of the paddock value of his horses and getting black type. With Groundbreaker, though, you'd think they could smash a nice handicap on the way if the mark doesn't go up too much.
