Potential bets today at Leopardstown, Sandown, Wetherby, Musselburgh, Lingfield, and Newcastle. All noted on first scan late last night.

Leopardstown may well be off, though any thoughts around Irish races won't be wasted, as most runners would still line up if the meeting is rearranged to Monday as per the current plan. Any mainland UK meetings subject to inspections seem likely to go ahead.

As always, actual bets depend on prices nearer the off and a deeper analysis of other runners. Several of these will be watchers. Several may be scrubbed. A few not noted yet might pop up as backable.

Minella Sixo (courtesy of Diamond Dan) /Son Of Anarchy 2.25 Leopardstown Clearly, this could go to anyone. So we'll want something at big enough odds relative to perceived chances. Likely the best call is to leave it alone, but a fun interest is most likely.

Martator 2.02 Sandown Unlikely. Venetia's are still running like they have three legs. Another one first one beat in the race yesterday. But Martator is one of only a few who have actually put a run in this season. And has missed a couple of other recent engagements, seemingly for this.

Sixmilebridge 2.40 Sandown Will be tough. But Sixmile might be up to it. Would be great to see, if he is.

Minella Missile 3.10 Sandown Hmmm. He's going to win one day. Logic says not today, but if Missile goes off in the 20s (or unlikely 30s) I'll probably take the chance.

Bleu D'Enfer 2.20 Muss Will need to step up, but doesn't seem totally impossible.

Sleedagh 3.00 Muss Not sure here. Suspect Sleedagh really wants a stiffer and more testing 3 miles +, same with Lucinda's other one. Might be an interesting race, though.

Always Busy 4.11 Muss If you take the view he may have improved for the Newbury run, Busy has potential for a good run. Lucinda's Inox Allen is a possible, too.

Presentandcorrect/Port and Brandy 3.50 Wetherby

Latin Five 4.55 Newcastle Might hit the frame at a big enough price.

Container Express 6.55 Newc

Under The Sun 4.30 Lingfield Left field, but should go off pretty big.

Nothing grabs the eye as screaming out for any hefty bet today, but we'll see how it goes in the betting markets later. The bumper at Wetherby might throw something up at worthwhile odds, but I suspect some deep caution may be required before getting to that point in the afternoon.

Using my db which can tell me what are good/bad/indifferent prep/trial/pointer races for all the GB/IRE g1-3 and listed races flat and jumps, I looked at the races this weekend and asked the question what are the races, historically, winners of those races have gone on to do well in ?

Winners of the Leopardstown Tattersalls Novice Hurdle Stakes certainly do well in the Cheltenham Supreme Novices Hurdle Stakes 2m 87y Grade1 in March, 7 out of 11 (63.6%) have won.

Also with the Leopardstown Irish Champion Hurdle Stakes, there's a lot of winners go back the next year and do well, 9 out of 15 (60%) have won again the following year.

Summary...

Martator 2.02 Sandown Unlikely. Venetia's are still running like they have three legs. Another one first one beat in the race yesterday. But Martator is one of only a few who have actually put a run in this season. And has missed a couple of other recent engagements, seemingly for this.

** Bit of a shame there. Thought he looked to be going OK out the back early, and appeared to be moving into it nicely enough when slipping. Shame, might be a long time before getting 36 again.

Lingfield 2.15 Spotted 23 on Kaaress a few minutes before the off, Michael Attwater has done me one or two favours in the last year, and a quick look suggested this might be too big. Kaaress has a long history, with several good enough runs to suggest he might take this. Small bet, but enough to count and have a bit of a free go at Sixmile. Pissed it!

Bleu D'Enfer 2.20 Muss Will need to step up, but doesn't seem totally impossible.

** Ran a nice enough race after taking near 70 before the off to small stakes. Happy enough with the effort.

Sixmilebridge 2.40 Sandown Will be tough. But Sixmile might be up to it. Would be great to see, if he is.

** I thought 8.2 was very fair, with some interpretations suggesting to me that the Irish horses were definitely beatable. The more I looked at it, the more it looked like he could do it. Loaded up. Well green at the off.

A massive run. And note yet another Affinisea does the business in a big race.

For anyone with a long enough memory, you'll know that Ben Pauling once thought Sixmile was a Champion Hurdle candidate.

Sleedagh 3.00 Muss Not sure here. Suspect Sleedagh really wants a stiffer and more testing 3 miles +, same with Lucinda's other one. Might be an interesting race, though.

**Left this alone. But Lucinda's will be more interesting another day/track.

Minella Missile 3.10 Sandown Hmmm. He's going to win one day. Logic says not today, but if Missile goes off in the 20s (or unlikely 30s) I'll probably take the chance.

** Far too short to take any sort of chance, and I'd say beat by halfway.

Dear Evan WiIliams

1. You know he needs sunshine. Windsor, I think, was misleading.
2. He can't stay a tough 3 miles on this sort of ground.
3. Why are you persisting in racing prominently, he should be last and come through from the back.

Or do you know all that already? And this was all part of the game for a couple of races in March/April? Wink wink.

PS Thanks anyway, this should ensure well into the 30s or higher another day.

Pic Roc Sandown 3.42 Figuring Mr Vango might just be found out at this short, and question marks against several others, Pic Roc looked good enough at 5.2 near the off. One (bad) mistake was going to finish it, but this 6 runner field should hopefully make it easier. A nice bet. Think they know how to ride him from now on!!

Always Busy 4.11 Muss If you take the view he may have improved for the Newbury run, Busy has potential for a good run. Lucinda's Inox Allen is a possible, too.

*** Decided on Inox Allen as the best bet at around 29 here. Played the RFC at mid 80s. No good either.

Under The Sun 4.30 Lingfield Left field, but should go off pretty big.

**This looked an 'anything can win it' race on closer inspection. Very small bet on Under at 55, in hope rather than expectation. No show.

Latin Five 4.55 Newcastle Might hit the frame at a big enough price. **Not big enough to back, ran well(ish) though, judging by the commentary.

Pallas Lord might be worth a look in the 6.25 if the current 20s holds/increases.

** Took the 20s. But couldn't see him out of the first 4 and went much heavier there at 3.7. Great run from Pallas, looked like he had it for plenty of the last 2f.

Container Express 6.55 Newc Decided to leave this race alone.

  • Win of the day Has to be Sixmilebridge. Great stuff!
  • Biggest win of the day Sixmile!!
  • Disappointment of the day Inox Allen Thought he would do a lot better.
  • Trainer balls up of the day Minella Missile, by a country mile!
  • 'That's a shame' of the day Martator, Venetia must be past the point of wondering what's going on and entering despair.
