Morning.

Things have been very quiet of late on account of poor racing, small fields and abandonments. It's been that sort of season, really, hasn't it?

Today I will have some speculative bets which I will mention below but they are in no way recommended as sure-fire choices.

The one horse that I shall be watching today is:

Stattler - 3.05 Leopardstown Ew 5/1

When I witnessed this one's win in last year NH Chase at Cheltenham, I was mightily impressed and said to myself that this 'will be a Gold Cup horse next year'. Sometimes, there are horses that actually give me a physical feeling when I'm watching them and experience has told me never to forget that impression. It doesn't happen often but last year's win win was one such occasion.

So, I've been backing him Ew ante-post ever since and was delighted to take prices from 20/1 down to the current 7/1.

Tbh, I feel like a winner already, in a sense, since Stattler has made it this far without the usual season-ending injury that normally befalls my ante-post punts. Having said that, we're not at Cheltenham yet and I'm praying, mainly, that he gets around safely in today's race and actually makes it to post in March.

I think he remains a cracking ew bet for today at the current 5/1. Yes, all the dogs are barking Galopin and defeat is just out of the question for him. isn't it? That's just the way I like it. I think I can be sure that my fellow will stay; his Cheltenham win was achieved in a lovely fast time over 3m 6f.

GDC has won over 3m in a hurdles race, which he won with ease, with Stattler behind. Yet he has yet to prove he'll handle it over fences and until I see him do it, I am quite content to be on my lad. Don't forget, GDC is still entered for the Ryanair chase and is even money fav for that. Statts is also in but is 14/1. His real target is the Gold Cup.

In any event, at 5/1, I see Statts as a sure-fire Ew bet since even if he doesn't beat the favourite, he'll beat all the others imo. He ran a cracking trial giving Minella Indo 8Lbs over a wholly inadequate 2m 4f lto and this confirmed him as a true Gold Cup horse for me.

I'm a bag of nerves tbh lol.

So, I shall be praying that Stattler at least gets around safely.
