The weather looms large and we lose two meetings but I’ll still enjoy Sandown and Wetherby. I’ve got three or four I’ll be showing an interest in:
Breeze Of Wind – Wetherby 1.23 11/2 Ew
Here’s one who did well for me last season. An out-and-out stayer, who will act on the surface, he won three times for me already and he could even improve in his second chasing season
Dawn Memory – Sandown 1.50 9/4 Win
This looks like a high-class renewal, doesn’t it? Both horses were exceptionally good when winning last time out and it’s very hard to separate them. However, the superfast win last time out persuades me to take on the favourite. Another aspect is the fact that this will only be, remarkably, DM’s fifth race under rules.
In the end, neither has form over the fences here and we won’t know until we see them racing over the railway fences.
Mr Vango – Sandown 3.35 9/2 Ew
I backed this, when favourite, in the Scottish National and I do think that he should make a bold show from the front here. There’s more to come from him, I’m certain. He wears the tongue-tie for the first time and will love the ground. Sandown is a decent front-runner’s course.
I shall have to have a small Ew on Cheddleton (12.14 Wetherby), a horse that I’ve followed in the past but who subsequently disappointed. In this race, which is wide open, I could see him get the 3m better than some and the 18/1 looks too big.
