Well, This is back-end stuff and so I'll give it one last shot. We all know how desperately difficultit is to register winners right now but I'll give it one lst shot since I've had a good, profitable season and the sport is god so here we go:
Pink Crystal - 4.50 Newmarket 8/1 Ew. An excellent run, running on well to hit the frame at odds of 8/1. Yet another improved performance.
Here's a horse that's done nothing but improve and I'm taking that upward curve to continue here. Lto, he fairly flew in the last furlong over 5.5f in listed company to register his best run yet. I'm hoping he's worth the bet, given this further trip.
Zephron - Curragh 5.30 16/1 ew Finished with a not-so-rare rattle once more to frame at 16/1 for me so another profit although the jockey and ride could hardly be described as stylish.
This I noted lto when late headway was eye-catching. He's won over the c/d and the odds look tempting enough to have a go. The pieces are back on and off the present mark, a decent run could well be on the cards.
Bascule - Newmarket 3.40 17/1 10 paces A real shame that he met inteference with 1.5f to go. it stopped him getting into that first ten. the way he finished sugests he would heve turned me a profit bar the trouble towards the end.
His last effort stood out like a sore thumb to me. He registered a double win at Chelmesford last winter over 1m6f, staying on stoutly. He's lightly raced this season with only three runs and should be fresher than most. The first run of the campaign, he ran Trawlerman to 3.5L at levels over 1m 6f, running on. That's a very good effort, bearing in mind that horse's Ebor win off 101 and I reckon they've aimed Bascule firmly at the Ces. The blinkers are applied for the first time, the Hughes stable is in good nick and these odds to hit the first ten look sumptuous, don't they. If you feel more brave, you might chance 28/1 for six places.
Late wire:
Here's a small ew adendum in the Ces:
Land Of Winter 17/1 for 10 places
I backed this one when he sluiced up last beck-end at nottingham. He's been lightly raced since but gave notice of a return to form lto. In truth, he'd want it softer than today but I do intend to have a little nibble. I'll be keeping a close eye open with regards to whether they'll send him back to Nottingham in November to go for the repeat win.
All in all, a good day's racing for me; decent runs, profits on two horses and a good run from the third.
