Morning all!!

As some of you are aware, when im not busy picking unlucky losers and beaten on the bob photo finish horses, I am a secondary school teacher in Co Cavan. I would like to also point out that Im from Monaghan, which is much better. I digress...

We are 50 years in operation this year having been one of the first Comprehensive schools to open in Ireland. We are marking the occasion by holding two Gala Ball nights among other events. Each night we are expecting in excess of 400 past pupils and staff to attend. I have been lumbered with financing this. My suggestion of trying to spin up the budget on BOG lucky 15s has not been met with favour from management, so my second option is a silent auction. This is where I hope some of my friends on here, and maybe even An Capall might come into play...

I am trying to source fourball vouchers for various golf courses, meal/hotel vouchers, trips to the races, racing memorabilia , mornings on gallops, visits to stables/studs etc. I can put prizes together to make packages. I already have some items such as paintings of golf courses like Royal Dublin and Royal County Down, but will need much more. I have personally been contacting as many people and places as I can think of, but if anyone else has any suggestions or experience of this, please get in touch. The event is in mid October, so I need to more fast.

If it is ok with admin on here, il post a link to the site when I have the items ready for auction in case anyone is interested in any of them.

Thank you for your help and criticism in advance.

Del.

We have a teacher here who has an American passport and vote. I have emailed Trump International at Doonbeg promising this vote for the Donald if we get a fourball and stay. Hes a businessman, surely he will see this as the good deal it is?

I have done a fair bit of event organising & fundraising for our point to point & hunt and have found the best way to get stuff out of people is to go and see people in person (that way its harder for them to say no!).
I am presuming you are selling the tickets? Your ticket sales should then cover the costs of catering, band, venue (if required) printing & advertising etc. Anything you make on the auction/raffle should be extra. I haven't done a silent auction (have done a live auction and found it works best if plenty of alcohol involved as guys like to show off who has more money than the others but you need a good auctioneer or it gets tedious) I have also done really well with selling raffle tickets but get nubile 20yo girls scantily clad to go round selling after the main course - you will be amazed at the tenners and twenties that are thrown at them! Sex really does sell!

No well past my sell by date sadly! In my youth I was known to dress sparingly!

I'm sure there'd be no problem putting up a year's free membership of this site as a prize.

It's probably a bit of a long shot but there are a number of golf clubs in St Andrews where I work and I know that many of them (and also Kingsbarns which is nearby) donate fourballs for charity events - they might be happy to do so for you in order to try and promote their courses to Irish golfers.

I'll throw in a 4-ball at Powerscourt GC Del. So howabout you and 2 other golfing members of TH pledge €25 each to the school and I'll get the green fees.

Very generous of you AC, if you want me to include a company name as a sponsor, please let me know. I will make the donation surely, be glad if anyone else will too.

For all the bad press this guy gets, he only deserves about 95% of it. Remember that next time hes put you away on a bumper horse...
