Dormant account
There seems to be an idea that an out and out galloper cannot win the Melbourne Cup simply because Yeats couldnt. The truth is Yeats was given a crazy ride and was at the end of a long season for him.
Mahler (off a light weight) is the definition of an out and out galloper and he ran well in it. Septimus is not slow (won a Group race over 10f last season) and will hopefully be ridden as though pace is not an issue.
Anyway that is another topic for a different thread!
Any of the winners I can remember where well handicapped and had a turn of foot (welds). Makybe diva had a turn of foot and she was givien special treatment by the handicapper for her third victory. I like septimus, he's not slow but I would have fancied his chances more from the front on soft ground at longchamp. Perhaps Aidan has too many options.
