Serenity

I've been to Hull once, come to think of it. Was auditing a subsidiary in a division of a very large and horrible bookmaking firm.

I was only there for a week and it didn't seem too bad, but I was working most of the time and when I wasn't working I was pissed.

There were two of us working up there and I vaguely remember going to some club in a taxi coz somebody had recommended it and it was the craziest place on earth. The taxi driver said it was 'grab a granny night' or something but when we got there, the queue was full of tarty looking birds and guys in sailors' outfits and it was a complete effing nuthouse.

I think it will have been the Wellington Club on Beverley Rd who had regular Grab a Granny nights.
I had my stag night there !

I never knew it as 'Crufts' but wouldn't argue with the name.
We called them GAG ( grab a gran) nights and they were hilarious.

Inside the club with that new disco lighting, everyone except those with dandruff looked reasonable but when outside......

Ssshh. Don't tell Wayne Rooney there are grab a granny nights for only a fiver or you'll never beat Azerbajan!

RAY.
Most towns cities seem to have a "Grab a Granny" or "Grab a Granddad" place for the entertainment? of the wrinkilies!! ITS! been going down here for well over 20 yrs so nothing really new as such.....

I remember a guy I know, went to the local G.A.G. he got so pissed he fell in love instantly with this lady??(lighting being very subdued) he booked into the bridal suit (that’s all that was left) so has to do the business etc with her(so he thought) he ordered champers too to the bedroom....

He went to bed was so pissed (did nothing but sleep) awoke in the morning to find this lady!! was an horror bag (his words) he was going to take her to the station to see her off he went downstairs paid the bill and then done a runner leaving his maiden still at the bridal suit.....................

I laughed when he told me and it cost him a bomb too............ life’s experiences!!! it costs monies to get experience.

First gig I ever went to was at the ''Welly [Wellington] Club'' circa 1979.

Unpopular heavy metal combo Girlschool were headlining.
Not Whelley, Wigan Ian?

My ex girlfriend used to live off the Beverly Road. I loved going to visit her in Hull, a nice city from what I remember.

Jack Ferens wan't behind NeddyBank. Many years ago I looked at developing a racing database along the lines of what the Racing Post do now - but the price for the rights to the data from Weatherbys were astronomical and it wasn't possible to develop a profitable business from it. I spoke to Jack Ferens at the time who did have data at a much more reasonable price.
Re Neddybank - I developed some prototypes for the man who was behind Neddybank, demonstrating looking up collateral form and indirect collateral form. I seem to remember that his name was Makin and he was Australian.
Also on the Hull theme - I once got a brick thrown at me at Boothferry Park for singing "Tigers, Tigers, rah, rah, rah !"

Ian R,
NEDDYBANK was being retailed from Newmarket in the early nineties. It vanished overnight in 1993(early) After lengthy investigations,i traced it to the offices of Racing Pages at Hull.I then made an appointment and made that never to be forgotten Journey from Lakenheath to Hull with my son.

It was all part of the learning process and NEDDYBANK is has gone to NEDDY heaven along with all the 20 odd predictor programs that i have purchased.

It's quite likely that Racing Pages (Jack Ferens) was where Mr Makin sourced the data from.
Quite what happened to Neddybank subsequently I don't know but as I said I did some prototyping for Mr Makin at his home in Hampshire - prior to him marketing it as NeddyBank from Newmarket.
