Apparently there are two injections, one hits the nervous system and muscles, constricting the breathing and slowing the oxygen to the brain. This is followed by another, larger dose to finish the job some 10-15 minutes later. From what I can make out, the time span between injections can be spun out and thus incur suffering through slow suffocation. Not so humane as at first sight.

My own view is that anyone who deliberately robs another of their rights as a human being should forfeit all but the very basics of their own.
