Should The Police Be Armed?

Brian,
I have no problem wih those stats, except that they are just a little dated.

Could you find a more current set of figures?

A movement of less than 0.5% could put Germany at lowest and Irland at the top.

I think that there is little point - it's yet another of those subjects where minds will not be changed. So, I'll leave the subject with the thought that in a country which has experienced some 800 years of (sometimes shaky) democracy and has ben fortunate enough to have never experienced a police state, if the majority of policemen are against a general arming of the service then so am I.

:o No comment either way for me but if ever you want to call the POLICE do what this guy done, you'll get a quick response then.................

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE

George Harris of Frome, in Somerset, was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.

George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said "no not yet?".
Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.

George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 40, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Harris residence and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them all!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available! either" :o
