...was Bristol airport to Cardiff airport a two hour journey??!!!

Due to the cancellations of several flights in and out of Bristol airport, ITV news cameras were there - one mother of two being interviewed complained that she now had a "two hour coach journey to Cardiff airport" as her flight had been diverted there. You wha??!!!

National Express have coaches which take either an hour and ten minutes or an hour and 40 minutes.

Common in the reporting of cases - the TV will often tell you that the costs are expected to be some enormous figure - you can usually divide it by five to get the actual costs

Absolutely - but who is going to believe that a journey from Bristol to Cardiff will take virtually double the time it should [in a coach]?! By car it's a 45 minute journey, tops. There's exaggeration and there's exaggeration - I find it amusing people are that willing to make a prat of themselves on TV!

in the same way that flames always reach 50 feet

and bystanders always describe vehicles as speeding

It is if Bar the Bull is driving.
20 minutes if Betsmate's behind the wheel though.

Mind you, Bristol airport is in Somerset I seem to think, and Rhoose is decidely South West of Cardiff (somewhere near to Barry Island), with the amount of rain thats fallen today in that part of the world the roads won't have been moving quickly, and the additional re-directed traffic onto the feeder roads would have taken them, over their absorbitive capacity, so it's possibly not the exaggeration that it first appears. Especially, if they wanted to avoid the toll and went via Gloucester.

To be honest I wouldn't have thought a 2 hour detour was newsworthy. Jaysus, who hasn't experienced worst? 11 hours coming out of Mexico was the worst I've copped for, but travelling independently had nothing laid on, and so had to just kip in the terminal again. Mind you, they told us that are scheduled flight had been grounded in Gatwick as 'unairworthy' which channels the mind a bit. It was one of charter firms, think it was Airtours? but for Gods sake, you'd have thought their PR was a little bit more savvy than that?

" By car it's a 45 minute journey, tops. There's exaggeration and there's exaggeration - I find it amusing people are that willing to make a prat of themselves on TV! "

It is between 60 and 65 miles, only about 40 of which are motorway miles, includes a toll bridge and some winding roads near Cardiff Airport. No one can do it in a car in anywhere near 45 mins. I have done the exact journey twice in the last 10 days and each time it has taken just over 1 hour 10 mins.

Bristol airport isn't actually anywhere near the motorway from what I recall, it's right the other side out towards Weston-Super-Mare, so that'd add to the journey time.

SUMMARY
Driving distance: 62.8 miles
Trip duration: 1 hour, 5 minutes
Driving time: 1 hour, 5 minutes
Cost:

It depends on the road conditions, the vehicle, and the driver.

I did Gatwick to Nottingham once (that's the east side of Nottingham, so there's another 15 minutes for the ring road) door to door in 1hr and 50 mins. If I tried it under different conditions I'd be lucky to get to the bottom of the M1 in the same time

To be honest I wouldn't have thought a 2 hour detour was newsworthy.

If someone so much as farts in an airport these days, Sky's Breaking News Emergency Plan goes into action.

To be fair it was on ITV news!

You're not wrong either Warbler - did Wantage - Stonehenge in 35 mins one Sunday on my way to ride out which was bit of a record....

Stonehenge!!! To ride out!!! Jaysus Shadz, I've heard of schooling but that is the bar a bit isn't it.

"Impressive that National Express are quicker than you then Diver!!!"

Why not just admit you were exaggerating at 45 mins? In fact, exactly the same as the prats on TV only in the other direction.

I will tell you this...
Bristol Airport to Cardiff airport will take 1.5 hours plus coz from North Cardif"where I live" to Cardif Airport is 45 mins with a "clear run" and Bristol Airport is over an hour "with a clear run" which never happens with Bristol.
I have done both airports many times and I am right!!!

So, the 2 hour journey by coach from airport to airport (assuming you are talking about a car) may be about right, Harry.
