Smart Phones

Have got the Samsung Galaxy SII. Thanks to all. Any tips on useful apps for racing/betting other sports? I've quickly found betfair, racingpost and ruk. Any other gems out there?

On the iPhone, the Betfair app is cack and I use iBetMate.

Not sure if they'll make it for your pretend iPhone though! :p

Despite stiff competition, I can categorically state that Three.ie have the worst public service in any industry that I have ever had the misfortune to encounter.

I contemplated genocide while dealing with them for 4 weeks to sort out a straightforward problem. They made my life a complete misery. That is four weeks of my life that I will never get back. If anybody wants to call their customer service number and tell them to fuck off on behalf of Barry Maher, please do so. My wife and local parole officer have barred me from any further contact with this hellish company.

I hear you. Idiots.

You can use Zoombet on Android for Betfair - very quick but have to use web to deposit.

"Advanced Task Killer" basically shuts down all the rubbish apps you have open

If they aren't already on then Youtube and Twitter come recommended :)

Bit late but betsmate makes some extremely good points.
All I would add is that budget comes into it. If you want a cheap Android to try have a look at the Orange Sanfrancisco. Its about £99 and easily as good as some phones costing twice as much.
You can unlock it to any network for free in seconds and there are hundreds of roms to cusomise (and improve) the phone with, which looks daunting to start with but is actually REALLY easy!

Some ideas here

Asfor network (with it being pay as you go) you can either get a 30 day sim, or what a lot of people use is a giffgaff sim

http://giffgaff.com/

£10 buys a 'goodie' bag as they call it. Lasts a month, and you get 250 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. If you get one you can refer friends and get £5 credit to your account too.

So pretty much for £110 you get a good android phone (only downside is the camera isn't great and no flash) and a months worth of airtime. Unlocked and with a decent rom on they sell for about that on ebay so chances are, if you hated it, you would practically get your money back.

Oh and the google+ integration is outstanding, even down to little things like auto uploading any photos you take to a private folder, so you can share them immediately, or if you lose your phone you don't lose your contacts, photos etc.

one other thing, download the betfair app, even if you don't use it. Login with it once, and if (like me) you don't use it, they ring about once every 2 months and offer a £50/£100 match bet :)

Bring out another phone and the sheep will buy. Simple formula

Its similar to when premiership teams copped on to the power of the replica shirt

Are Apple taking the piss with bringing out yet another IPhone?

They bring out one a year. This one is actually late! I'd imagine that's hugely conservative - how many different models do Blackberry, Samsung and HTC bring out in a year?

Dont think they are taking the piss! they are just taking technology to the next level with their innovations and making the world a different place, im all for seeing the latest technology, but accept that its not financially realsitic to keep up with it all!

Sort of on the subject, RIP Steve Jobs. Made a massive difference to the technological world as we know it.

Very sad news. Fascinating character, and surely owner of the greatest comeback in corporate history.

An android phone isn't tied to the godawful iTunes.

Oh dear God how bad is iTunes?

I reset my phone to factory settings and lost all the music I downloaded from iTunes. I downloaded all my purchases from the iTunes store to a computer and than tried to sync them onto my phone. Only 87 of the 267 songs are now on my phone and I have no idea what I am doing wrong.

I've lost the will to live.

When you register a device on itunes, the first thing to do is to set it not to autosync. Easier to manage it manually. A friend of my son-and-heir tried to "share" a few of my son's legally bought Apps. Itunes decided to sync his phone and wiped everything off it. He wasn't best pleased. I was. Slimey little ****.

SC - you still have the songs somewhere, you just can't sync them up properly?

Yes Gareth. They are on a computer. I was able to "sync purchases form iPhone". When I try to transfer them to my phone it only sends across a fraction of the songs.

Are they a mix of stuff you've bought from iTunes, and stuff from elsewhere (CDs, other downloads etc.)? If you click on the iPhone in iTunes and go to the music tab, make sure it's set to sync everything that's in the library (with apologies if you've already checked this).

They're all downloaded form iTunes. I thought I had clicked on "sync everything" but will try once more today. It's painful that it's not straight forward, I paid enough it!
