Which song can you never get out of your head?

For me, it is Sultans Of Swing by Dire Straits.

Since I moved to London (2 weeks ago), my journey to work involves a change at Baker Street Underground station. I began to find that everytime the train approaches the platform, I can hear the saxaphone introduction of Baker Street in my head. By the time I have alighted the train, I have; "I used to think that it was so easy..." floating around my head. It is begining to annoy me.

Anyway, the other morning, as is often the case, I had my old favourite Sultans Of Swing safely lodged in my head. As the tube rattled towards Finchley Road, I began to wonder what would happen in my head when we got to Baker Street.

It dawned on me that there was going to be a mightly head-on collision. A song-in-the-head clash of the titans if you like.

The result? At Edware Road, I still had Sultans Of Swing in there, so I have decided that that must be my ultimate Head Song.

What is yours?

Should I get out more?

Pulp - Common People.. It can be months since I heard it but still it is going round in there. If that isn't then Sloop John B by the Beach Boys is instead.

It's usually 'The Great Pretender': "in a world of my own"... (and so I should be, I was frequently told as a youngster. Which made me what I am today, etc.).

Relkeel, you could try mashing the two together to make 'The Sultans of Baker Street' or 'The Bakers of Swing' and see how that feels when you get to Edgware Road. Take the tune from one, the lyrics from the other... that should keep you mentally-challenged for a few hours.

Can't think of the title but it goes something like

Be Ding Ding Ding Da Da Babi De Da Broom Broom

Sometimes I get these mental blocks such that I can't get my head song into my head. In fact sometimes I can't even remember the words of my head song - Saturday Night by Whigfield (a very good group by the way). When this happens I find that drilling a hole in my temple alleviates the pressure and, after a few minutes, all is well and I'm boogieing again.

The only time I've ever had a clash of head songs was when I was waiting for an outsider for the scoop 6 on a Saturday. Suddenly that old Feargul Sharkey number 'Against All Odds' (Feargul was called Phil Collins at the time - a short time later he became the Housemartins) came into my head and created turmoil with the Whigfield (a very good group) number. I'm afraid I had to utilise the hammer action on the drill. Some of you may think these are extreme lengths to go to but at least I know no matter how bad things get my music will see me through.

Honest Tom, I think you may have been seperated at birth from Mr Griffin. He too enjoys Whigfield and Fergal Sharkey  I always say he has no taste but it would seem there is a kindred spirit out there

Two very good groups Griffin. My favourite Feargal Sharkey number is 'Song for Whoever' which he sung when he was Bananarama.

"I love you from the bottom of my pencil case".

An awful sad tune.

So here we stand
In our secret place
Where the sound of the crowd
Is so far away
You take my hand
And it feels like home
We both understand
It's where we belong

So how do I say
Do I say goodbye
We both have our dreams
We both wanna fly
So let's take tonight
To carry us through
The lonely times

I'll always look back
As I walk away
This memory will last for eternity
And all of our tears
Will be lost in the rain
When I find my way back
To your arms again
But until that day
You know you are
The queen of my heart

So let's take tonight
And never let go
While dancing we'll kiss
Like there's no tomorrow
As the stars sparkle down
Like a diamond ring
I'll treasure this moment
Till we meet again

But no matter how far (no matter how far)
Or where you may be (where you may be)
I just close my eyes (just close my eyes)
And you're in my dreams
And there you will be
Until we meet

I'll always look back
As I walk away
This memory will last for eternity
And all off our tears
Will be lost in the rain
When I find my way back
To your arms again
But until that day
You know you are
The queen of my heart

I'll always look back
As I walk away
This memory will last for eternity
And all off our tears
Will be lost in the rain
When I find my way back
To your arms again
But until that day
You know you are
The queen of my heart

Oh yeah
You're the queen of my heart (queen of my heart)
No matter how many years it takes (queen of my heart)
I'll do it all to you
Oh yeah (queen of my heart)
Oh yes you are
The queen of my heart

I don't really like the song, but it just seems to, as the title says, stick in my head.

It varies - usually whatever I start the day with while in the shower. Today I shall be mostly singing a selection from "Guys and Dolls"

Ah nice one Brian. I would like to hear you sing' There ain't nothing like a dame', next time i meet you at the races!!!

The song that I cannot get out of my head at the moment ' I just can't get you outta my head' , etc............la la la la la la la la la..................................

Mainly because I'm forced to watch/listen to it every morning, the song that is currently stuck in my head is "Great Inventions, Groovy Solutions" by Archie The Inventor (Balamory).

Lord Hartigan posts about whatever he starts his day with, in the shower, and he hasn't started his day yet. Post is timed at 11.36. BAASSTAAARD.

Anyhoo, my head song is 'All Kinds Of Everything' by Dana.

It's usually The Boxer, but the last few weeks it has been You're Just Too Good To Be True.
