Spam Sandwiches Are Better...

As soon as my new Nigerian friend deposits the inheritance I didn't realise I was entitled to into my bank account, I am going to do the honourable thing and pay for her to come over to England.

Some of you lot only see the worst in people.

Warbs, I see what you mean - I didn't click on the Maria link, but now that I have, I think Maria's probably got pretty high expectations of what might be lining up for her! Just to keep her in fresh hibiscus hair adornments will set you back a few squid a day!
Fear not Kriz, I have a friend, which is all I'll say ;) who is more stunningly attractive than her, and its only as I came to realise what an emotional wreck, and how inwardly vulnerable she was, that the facade doesn't seem quite so intimidating to non discript mere mortals like myself anymore.

You are of course one of the few people on this site whose ever met me, so I take it from your post that you're insinuating that I'm badly handicapped, 100/1 shot in the Maria of Cheboskary Claiming stakes

Remember Foinavon and the parable of Nortons Coin <_<

I've checked my records though and haven't got a speed rating for her which is a primary concern when assessing the form  I'm just curious how she describes herself as havign brown hair, yet all her pictures have her with blonde  Who is the blonde, perhaps Brians Michelin logo is the answer afterall

Its a pity we don't have any of Smyllies people on the ground in Cheboksary any more - we could get them to check her out.

But even the chubsy Maria has her charms -

Stick a stetson on her head and she's Desperate Dan's (The Dandy's, not ours) sister.

They may be there but under cover. They could be disguised as very attractive blonde women.

Oh, no, no, don't diss yourself, Warbs! I just think that the fragrant Maria looks pretty high maintenance (in eyeliner alone), and that what starts out with a fascination for exploring the historic city of Oxford, then the historic city of London, the historic city of Paris, the historic city of Rome, etc., may lead to exploring the not quite so historic city of Dubai, then Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, Las Vegas... all in the interest of mutual global exploration and enlightenment, of course. One just has to ensure that one's bank balance doesn't become history, too, during the mutually exploratory process. Which, one has to say, looks as if it would present many attractive vistas.

She's clearly barking mad, I grant you, but an open mind please about our Maria i think <_<
Not necessarily Warbler. She's just Russian
[or rather as it's the Volga, Ukrainian? - don't have a map handy]

What passes for mad in Olde Englande is considered quite normal in her her neck of the woods. I think she sounds, and looks, quite delightful. Do hope whichever forumite palys Sir Galahad keeps us informed.

I got involved with an 'art impressario' in the late 80s who was a lot younger than I - he'd invited a young Muscovite stunner to London shortly before he met me, to help her out of a dead-end life [this was just pre-Gorbachev]. I could tell you some tales... I 'outlived' her at least........... It was a damned close run thing. I learned an *awful* lot about Russians

Well, I am amazed. I cannot believe that we have members of this forum who think that the lovely Maria is a real person. The "Russian dating scam" is almost as famous as the "Nigerian fraud".

The idea is that you get involved in email correspondence which becomes more and more passionate (or filthy if that's your taste), you fall in love (or lust) and then you start helping her out with the funds to get her visa, passport etc.

Most of them aren't even women and many of them have been no nearer to Russia than the nearest bottle of vodka.

And if you really haven't come across this before then ask just Google "Russian Dating Scam."

Brian - thanks! Fantastic! I am now Irina Svetyanova from Rumskipumski, 38-24-36, 24, recently cruelly abandoned by who I thought was a kindly, sincere English chentleman, who, it appears, has a wife and six children, the brute.

I much would liking to meet kindly, sincere, other English chentleman with long pockets and short memory, wanting affectionate, kind, lady with good manners. Enjoying much the long walks in shopping malls and the country driving in nice Flying Spur or Daimler, yes?

Bloody hell Irina, I just wrote an appallingly filthy letter to you  I had no idea it was Kriz scamming me for a visa from Lingfield

You very dirty boy, and what is this about owning castle in Spain? I like you much. Please to sending photo.

Fear not I've met enough English women over the years who've been more than capable of taking me for money, :P and one particular American one comes to mind too. This particular Maria appears to be female though, and her real name is Natalya and she comes from Novograd and is currently being pursued/ under investigation thus.

So children make this weekend we not be doing me thinkz

Oh well there's always Cheltenham instead.

This is a brilliant idea.

Do I have to pretend I'm female to get away with it or can I be Vladimir Nikerzonanov, the 6'6" (x 12") ex-Olympic gymnast who bears more than a passing resemblance to a young Robert Redford?

You'd have more chance of getting the respose you're after if you told them you were a 5'4" 92 year old multi-millionaire with a serious heart condition

Please tell me no one on here actually took this seriously.....
I wouldn't have thought any damage has been done to anyone.

There's a couple of things that I'm slightly curious about though. Are these 'mail order' catalogues that BM's post routes you to a complete scam too? and if so why haven't google or the relevant ISP moved against it? Or are these catalogues and their personnel genuine, and the scammers are stealing their identities therefore? Or are scammers infiltrating the catalogues to gain a sense of associated credibility?

I must say, I can't immediately see where the sting in this one is, given that she's claiming to have a visa, and by definition therefore must have a ticket? I suspect it might lie in the short notice element, as she appears to be offering to turn up on your doorstep in about 24/48 hours time, which suggests the origins might very well be UK based? essentially a prostitute being run by some gang that's based in Russia, but has operatives here?. Assuming most people can't make arrangements with their employers to get time off at short notice, I'm guessing the sting comes after she's gained an element of trust/ confidence, (probably over the weekend, after she's shagged your suspicions out of you :D ). The capacity would then seemingly exist for Yuri and Sergi to turn up with a box Luton on Monday morning whilst you've got to go to work, quite possibly leaving a slightly ill Maria at home? I would have thought the authorities could easily entrap this one though, if this is indeed the modus operandi?

I must confess to having an impish curiousity in responding and see where she takes it? In fact I can almost see myself coming home one evening half pissed and pressing the send button - God forbid

Isn't that the kind of person I'm trying to attract?

Somebody like that could have started out as a 5-2 woman D.O. before they applied the steroids and drugs. Have you noticed the change lately in P........... oh never mind.

OK, I'll pass your name on.

The fact is that "hers" is one of a number of names listed on the websites warning of the scam.

And as for a difficult to spy sting, well how about this "lovely lady"?

American MAN sentenced to 5 years in jail for "Russian Brides" scam

So you thought those "Russian brides" were canny and stealing money from nice western guys? NO, scammers are mostly MEN pretending to be Russian women seeking love! And this scam was run FROM THE U.S.A.

In his guilty plea 40-year-old Robert McCoy from San Diego, California, admitted defrauding more than 250 men and agreed to pay back his victims whopping US$737,521. Investigators say there could be more victims that have not been identified. The fraud utilized the infamous "visa and airfare" scheme: McCoy and his wife Anna were posing as Russian women seeking marriage and a non-existing Russian marriage agency that would provide women with visas and tickets.
