Update.

Day 5 of my hell.

I have smoked 4 cigarettes in that time. Patches have improved immeasurably since I last did this - no stomach cramps and vomiting this time. My teeth are all going to fall out through my confectionary consumption. I have been surprisingly calm and lucid, only causing Mrs Simmo to scurry off like a scared rat on one occasion thus far. I will prevail.

Triptych. We shall overcome. (and HT if you're still bothering to try! :D )

Have a large brandy instead Triptych - that'll help!!
Problem is any alcohol really makes me want a cigarette!

Simmo- we will get there! I'm not doing the patches but I'm finding passive smoking a rather good pastime at the moment. I find myself following smokers along the street rather too closely.

right lads, a bit of a suggestion here for the two of ye.

work out what you smoked daily, and convert that into how much you spent daily. now, get a jar, marked fags, ciggies or whatever and put it on the mantle piece or somewhere. each day, put the hard cash normally spent on the fags into the jar, and save the cash up. have something in mind for the money at the end of it all, set yourself goals, something to aim for.

You both like the ponies, and i presume a flutter, i suggest your first goal is cheltenham, approx 7 weeks away... depending on how heavy a smoker you were, you could save £20-40 a week, netting yourself a nice cool £200 roughly to have a punt, or take yourself off to the races for the day with....

triptych...think of it....£200 *denman= happy days!!!!

or yous could push the boat out and hit aintree in a couple of months...

My aunty done this and got double glazing for her house, although she was a chain smoker!!!

Great idea del boy. How much is regestration for one of those girls boarding schools where they wear the knee high stockings?

Great news for all of you who are giving up smoking. Keep up the good work! No one said it would be easy but your body and wallet will be seeing results already.

I'm finding that I feel a little queasy whenever I smell someone else's smoke - which helps considerably.

That is a good sign Simmo. My Dad, after a major heart operation gave up smoking about 5 years ago. He felt queasy and then threw up the first time someone lit up a cigarette next to him. He had smoked for the best part of 45 years and since the operation he hasn't touched one. His agina has gone, he looks the picture of health, still holds down a full time job at 71 years old and has probably added (hopefully) another 10 years to his life.

Keep going! B)

Eeeucch! :P

Well done, simmo - keep it up and you'll be a new man in no time. Lungs fit for a marathon, etc., etc. :D

I bet the smoker next to your Dad gave up right away, too, Kathy!
Krizon, if I remember it was a jockey down at Newbury that lit up in Dad's office! I will have to ask him which one it was.... :D

I gave up smoking on January 13th, but yesterday i had an emotional meeting with a woman i was in love with a couple of years back so i bought a pack of ten earlier today.

Thing is, once you`ve proven to yourself you can give up, this sort of slip up is possible with no long term effect. Once i`ve finished them i wont be buying any more.

Mr GG gave up smoking nearly two weeks ago and it's been hell h:) He's been using Nicorette patches, and once the nightmares subsided, he stopped feeling sick and complaining that the patches itched he turned into the biggest barsteward on earth :angy: Everything I said and everything I did was wrong, I'm sure even me breathing annoyed him :angy: He's been more tolerable to live with since Sunday though, so I'm hoping we've seen the worst of it. After the shite he's put me through if I so much as see him looking at a fag again I'll cut both his hands off h:)
