I'm starting to get into these puzzles.

I can now do designated 'moderate' or 'medium' ones in about 30 mins at the first attempt, which is pretty good progress compared with the two hours it took at the start, after two or three attempts.

Anyone else into them?

I love them, Maurice. I didn't start a thread on here as I thought I was the only one!! I do all of them and try to do the Fiendish or extra hard ones in under 20 minutes. When I first started I was the same as you. The more you do the easier it gets.

They pass bus journeys brilliantly!!

I have a book of them at work for those quiet moments. And lordy do I hate it if my one and only punter wants to put a bet on the 8.42 at Sprint Valley when I'm right in the middle of a tricky one

The 9 number grids are reasonably straightforward. Basically the same thought pattern as that old game (not the quiz) Mastermind.
In the Saturday Independent they have a Super Sudoku based on a 16 character grid - 0 to 9 and A to F. Now they are difficult.

archie, I have seen those too. They are very tricky but very satisfying when/if (in my case) you do complete them.

My staff in work spend most of the day betting on them. Someone is getting fired soon.
If you're in charge you must be first in line for the bullet

They are great. The last ten days, my daily routine has gone something like:

10 a.m. Rise and shine. Hopefully Dad will have nipped down to the village for the Racing Post. Study the form with a nice strong cup of tea.

11 a.m. Warm up with the Irish Times Simplex Crossword and the easy sudoku in the IT.

12 noon Go for a run if I am not too hungover.

1 p.m. Lunch

1.30 p.m Do the Crosaire (cryptic in the Irish Times) and the two difficult sudokus in the IT.

3 p.m. Stroll down to the bookies.

6 p.m. Back from the bookies. Read the papers.

7 p.m Dinner

8 p.m. Go drinking or watch DVDs.

They are very good - there are a group of about 4 of us do them daily in the office. When I was at my aunt's for a big family get-together last month I was photocopying 2 papers about 6 times to make sure everyone had a copy of them!

I read on the front page of the Sunday Tribune that Mary Harney is addicted to them....I presumed they were some kind of pie.

Buenas dias - and I thought that I was the only addict on here
Buenos días, Brian.

See, first day back at work and I'm straight into correction mode. There's hit-the-ground-running for you B)

(Not that anybody is wondering, I imagine, but día is masculine.)

Here's one that took me so long I lost track of time!!

very hard sudoku
I went wrong after 20 mins. I cna't work out why. I was trying to be extra careful. I wonder if there's a misprint in the puzzle set. I'll try again.

I managed it in about 25-30 mins the second time. Still can't figure out where I went wrong the first time. I must have been down to two numbers for one box, got it down to one but put the one I discarded in instead.

I was the same. It took me 4 hours the first time when I went wrong. The next time it took 25 minutes or so, same as you guys.

Here's a site that addicts may not forgive me for telling them about - they have Easy. Medium, Hard and Evil and you can compare your completion time with that of everyone else.
