After the excoriating Saturday performance, I crawl out from under my stone in an attempt to restore some self-belief, lol.

I have two today.

The first is one that I know Outsider will be keen on and one that has shown ability, although I'm not totally convinced that he doesn't have a few ideas of his own, to coin a phrase. What I do know is he's back to a course he loves and round which he's won three times over 6f. The last of those showed him rated on 82 in April. How things have progressed: he's now on 97. I know that Outsider (OS) and myself have thought that there's a big pot in him and today's 25k to the winner isn't the biggest but might be one they could take in.

Tippy Toes - 3.20 Chelmesford - 11/8 Win Won 11/8

Obliged nicely with what, I think, was a generous Sp and, with my staking, gave me a profit on the day, which is nice after Saturday's hiccup. I wonder what the handicapper will have to say

Secondly, I have had my eye on this fellow, having noted him in a couple of 'dark' runs recently. The first of these was at York in a cl3 over 12f, where hehit a flat spot, drifted back but then picked up again, too late. After an unsuccessful (unsurprisingly) effort in the Northumberland Plate, he came out again in a cl4 at York and, again, he hit a flat spot, lost his place but began to get going again when it was all over. I made a comment in my notes that, with this tendency to lose concentration mid-race, they might well apply some headgear to focus his attention. Well, here it is. they fit the pieces on here and drop him to Cl5 (2Lbs below his last run).

Tiger Jet - 5.35 Southwell - 6/1 Ew Unpl

Well, what to write about this old boy? I'd really hoped that the pieces would do the trick but he simply fell out of the stalls and, in the end, I think it was this that did for him. Even so, I'm not sure he'd be carrying any of my moneyin the future. May be a dodgepot

They return with him to Southwell, where is see he ran in a maiden over this distance when 2nd to Auriferous. That horse is now rated 84 and runs in cl 2's and 3's. I do think that if the pieces do the trick, he could have a very good chance here and 6/1 does look good value.

Just the two main bets, then, today, hoping to redeem myself.

2 x Singles Win double

I'll probably double Tippy Toes with Chil Chil Pont 3.00

Good luck

Washt the winner of the ponty race the horse you said was the one to take out of the race at chester when tippy toes just got beat.

Only just got some internet .

Yes indeed and I backed that one just before the off.
Tiger Jet was a major disappointment, wasn't he? Very slowly away and the writing was on the wall thereafter. Notice that he was backed into favourite before the off but to no avail. I think connections were expecting much better than that. Oh well.

In certain grade handicaps it's not uncommon with some stables where "backed in just before the off" is not always a positive

How so, 20? Can you elaborate?

I knew I may have to. One reason may be that because of the class, the horses they're thinking will win are as bad as they've been shown to be previously.
