Television

I saw the Bobby Moore programme, didn't find it moving, Moore came across as a rather peculiar individual (maybe that's what made him a great player).

His obsessive/compulsive behaviour, presumably inherited from his mother, his bouts of heavy drinking, and his habit of hanging around with dodgy east end criminal types - none of these issues was explored further.

I found it rather a superficial programme.

"Jokerman - Tommy Tiernan takes on America" is on RTE2 tonight at 9.30. I don't know how popular he is in the UK but if you have access to it he's worth half an hour.

There is actually something on telly tonight that I really want to watch. Such a rare thing! There's a programme on Ch4 at 8pm about Iraq. I think they went undercover to see what it's really like for the women there now.

Can I possibly be the only person who watched the moving story of Bobby Moore?
I watched it too and thought it was excellent.

That's on my viewing schedule too, Griffin - it will be interesting to see matters from the female perspective. I attended a local talk given by one of the members of our shoot a couple of months ago about his two tours of duty in Iraq. He's pretty senior - Brigadier General (I think) - in the Marines and not quite how you would expect such a senior Marine to be, somehow.

It made for an almost uncomfortable evening, because this isn't exactly a large community and many there (including me) were of course anti the whole Iraqi invasion anyway. I know for a fact that our speaker, even though a committed and dedicated soldier, has had a hard time convincing himself and motivating those below him.
