Sad to hear Terry has died after a long illness - he was 72. One of the most dashing of jockeys in and out of the saddle when the game was a little less constricted than it is now. A bit of the colour has gone.

A great character and a great jock on his day, remember an epic ride at Sandown on a horse called Domacorn. Made mistakes early on, not good over those fences, but Terry got him jumping and up to win. That was a long time ago.

He will be missed.

909 career wins, should have had one more, missed the ride on Gay Trip 1970 Grand National winner through injury.

In a message on Facebook on Henrietta Knights page: "Sadly, Terry died peacefully after breakfast this morning with Henrietta by his side"

A great character of NH racing.
His autobiography was most entertaining with lots of time spent drinking champagne in turkish baths.
He never dried himself after saunas instead letting the steam evaporate itself while getting dressed and claimed never to get a head cold or flu.
His "This Is Your Life " episode is also memorable.
Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

Bearing in mind my dad and Josh Gifford probably haven't made it out of the Heavenly Host (or whatever the pub up there is called) I can only imagine what kind of shennannigans are now afoot....

RIP Terry

Sad but inevitable news...
What a life he lived and was incredibly lucky (for both of them) to hook up with Hen for the last part of it

I liked the story of him grabbing his shotgun from beside the bed and racing downstairs to see off a fox that was molesting Hen's pedigree ducks. Hen sticks her head out the window to see what all the commotion is about and sees a stark naked Terry stalking around like Elmer Fudd and the ducks scattering in all directions.

RIP

Plans are in the pipeline to hold a celebration of Terry Biddlecombe’s life at Cheltenham racecourse – the scene of so many of his great triumphs.

The three-times champion jockey died at West Lockinge, near Wantage, aged 72, on Sunday after a lengthy illness.

And yesterday his wife, Henrietta Knight, revealed that it was planned to have a small family funeral, followed by a celebration of his life at Prestbury Park in a few weeks’ time.

Biddlecombe’s greatest success came aboard Woodland Venture in the 1967 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

And he also played a leading role as Knight trained Best Mate to win a hat-trick of Cheltenham Gold Cups under Jim Culloty from 2002-4.

She said: “It would be nice if everyone could go and pay their respects and have happy memories of him.

“Cheltenham was his home because he was from near Gloucester, and it was his favourite racecourse – that would be fitting.

“He had some wonderful days there and knew Cheltenham so well, both as a jockey and helping me with Best Mate and finding the best ground around the course.

“He used to watch him nearly every day out on the gallops, and he was involved in where to run him and what to feed him.

“He always fed him in the morning and always gave him his breakfast, so he was a big part of it.

“With Jim Culloty he was fanatastic. He and the horse got on so well, and Terry was very helpful to Jim.”

It would be a good idea I think to name a race after him - the Argento would be a good one I think or the December Gold Cup .
