The 2025 Glorious Goodwood Day 1 (Tuesday) thread

Dammit! I am still running around getting stuff together and looked up at tellybox and thought - that looks well. But too busy and the bugger only just trounces the field at 25s! That said if I had been looking properly I would have gone through the form and struck him off. He looked great and it was an enterprising ride by HollyDolly.
Just checked and he was a course winner and I'm big into those that handle here (or Epsom or Brigton) consistently run well here.

Fvck me gently.

I am not enjoying this racing today.

If this is how the week is going to go I'm as well leaving it all alone.

It's absolute bollocks isn't it. I had a nice price on Jonquil and covered on Lake Forest. I knew Audience or Kinross weren't winning and the likeliest danger was a shithouse rag from the front. And so it transpired.

I just can't get my head around that race. Why run Scamdanavia when Illinois would have pissed up. So strange.

Oh Jesus he was never going to be a pacemaker. I'll just have to concede I don't get that one.

And just to rub a heap of salt into a festering sore, I went back to check my figures and noted I had written in the summary:

Sean Levey isn’t a go-to jockey for the yard but Spencer is, especially for the owners of Jakajaro which I think would have won last time with a clear run but which I’ve rated as dead-heating for first place. I’ve also taken Jakajaro in a 142/1 each-way double with Ancient Rome in the opener so fingers crossed for a big payout. Brazen Bolt is the other one of interest for me. He looked on the way back the last couple of times after a spell in the wilderness but he was rated 102 when he returned from Bahrain last spring and Carr has a happy knack of reviving others’ cast-offs.

... and I fvcking forgot to back the bastert.

28/1 sp.

Maybe just as well my oven is electric.

In the 5.30 today, I’m a bit puzzled as to why Greydreambeliever is such a big price, at 40/1.

She had 2 very good 2yo runs, then disappointing so far this season, until decent run, in first time cheekpieces, when hampered on last run under a 7lb claimer. Could go well today on slightly easier ground.

I've downgraded my bet to a cover one for others in the race but suspect it must be a Godolphin special either tomorrow or somewhere down the line, maybe the Cambs.

Sage advice -enough to talk me out of a bet.

Of course, the O'Brien stable doesn't bet but interesting to see that the winner was 12/1 earlier in the week and indeed pushed the favourite out from odds-on.

As I say, the stable doesn't gamble.

You're talking through your hole. He was 12/1 because no one thought he'd run.

Michael Tabor wasn't even there today because he's not well. The Coolmore Mafia are busy trying to stay alive, not land gambles.

I would never contradict anyone who accused me of telling through my hole and of course defer to you better knowledge.
👍
How come they didn’t know if he would be running?
Was it fitness, niggle?

Do the stable and connections never bet, then?

I like it when the big meetings are covered by the Tote World Pool.

The Treble of the last three races can sometimes prove rewarding, with also a consolation included when having the first two winners with the runner up in the last leg.

Naval Light
Stellar Sunrise

x
Protest
Tundra Rose
Zapphire
Zgharta
Atlantis Blue

x
Woodhay Wonder
Arabian Leopard

Having a pop with this perm of 20 Lines in the hope of a nice return
Fingers crossed for a good run.

Near miss, with winner of Leg 1 , winner Leg 2 - but only managing the 3rd place in Leg 3 missing out on the consolation dividend of £234.50 - typical of my luck at the moment.

Two mafia hitmen are walking deep into a wood.

The first one says, "I don' like it in here. I'm scared."

The second one says, "You're scared? I haf ta get back on mah own!"

Good lord. The lads do like a flutter but Michael tabor seems the one who wades in. Scandinavia was very much fancied but they were not sure if he'd beat illinois apparently. Plus illinois had a hard race in the gold cup.
No need for Lambourn to go to the leger now. Winner looks like a top stayer in the making.

On Irish Oaks day John Magnier was particularly grumpy towards Brian Gleeson on RTE.Must confess I got a certain amount of enjoyment from it.
