The 2025 Glorious Goodwood Day 3 (Thursday) thread

Today is business day -laying Pied Piper for a place in the First at Galway and backing Whirl in tne Nassau.

2 out of 2 Luke top bombing have to say I thought you were daffy ducked with the pied piper looked like he was coming to win it had to be 1.01 for a place and then stopped like he'd been shot. Fair play though 2 easy winners in the end.

If there's give in the ground at Longchamp the first Sunday in October - which isn't exactly unusual - the Pretty Polly might just hold the key to the Arc.

Whirl's performance might have been even better than it looked there as the time said a different thing to the amended going description.

Whirl and Kalpana might want some beating in the race.

Thanks Danny -it was a Good day.A Dream To Share could make it a very Good week tomorrow.

The times suggest to me it was never actually Heavy and I think it will be Soft, or even Good to Soft, tomorrow.

The track has taken the very heavy rain well tbf.

Yes, the time of the last race today pointed to softish ground rather than anything worse. It was supposed to be warm and sunny into this evening, mild and dry overnight and warm and sunny again tomorrow, same on Saturday.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was back on the fastish side of good again by Saturday afternoon.

But it doesn't give me any confidence about my luck improving. It's shaping up like a total freak/frigger of a meeting.

When they talked to the Clerk of the Course, it sounded like he was guessing a bit saying he might change it to Heavy. Times didn’t really bear this out. Could be a bit dead underfoot tomorrow though and that makes it harder to guess who it will suit.

RP have the 'timed ground' as g/s for yesterday, which puts a different slant on today's prospects.

Thursday - gdSFT
Friday - GDSFT - GDsft (depending on forecast afternoon isolated light showers)
Saturday - GD (Maybe GDfm last 2 - 3 races if no showers Friday).

UK weather, so can only guess. Though my mate reckons he saw Michael Fish in Corals trying to get his pension on Big Mojo.

From today’s Racing Post:

The going at Goodwood has dried to soft, good to soft in places from heavy after Thursday's remarkable deluge.

Clerk of the course Ed Arkell admitted he should have left the description as soft following 28.6mm of rain during racing yesterday, but conditions have improved on Friday morning and it is set to be a sunny and breezy day at the West Sussex track.

The hill/camber surely helps it dryer quicker. The camera yesterday showed a lovely shot of whirl leading towards the stands and clearly showed they come downhill for most of the straight. I can see a few being pulled out but by the time we're racing could be good/good to soft. Can't understand trainers taking out horses on account of soft going. You will never find out if they go on it and as we've seen many times by the time they get to mid afternoon the going won't be close to what was described in the morning.

It's 21 degrees by 12 o'clock today with sunny intervals at goodwood. Will be loose on top but good underneath. Too many trainers too quick to pull out horses imho. Aidan let Bedtime story run knowing it was unlikely she would handle it. She ran pretty well considering and will have teed her up for her next run.
