The King George Stakes, the Golden Mile Handicap and, err, five other races.

It's again a dollop of something you might actually value eating on top of a portion of macaroni cheese.

In the golden mile there has been only 2 winners drawn over 10 in the last 15 years.
mirsky 40/1 a/p
rhoscolyn. 40 /1 a/p
greek order 33/1 a/p
all drawn low.

Rhoscolyn down to run tomorrow.
Tudhope to ride mirsky.

Last years winner was drawn 21 and the runner up 20, so I’m not worrying about the draw especially if there is appreciable rain before Friday, which may even favour higher drawn horses.

Mirsky was my initial thought, as I usually start with David O’Meara in these types of handicap, and I have had a bit of a saver on him. His Theoryofeverything is interesting. Hasn’t fulfilled the potential that saw him line up in the Greenham for his 2nd run and although he has won 3 times for O’Meara, hasn’t really improved since bought out of the Gosden stable. I think Friday might be when he shines. You can get 50’s at the moment.

However, for my main pick I’m going for Afentiko at 33/1. Oliver Cole has two in the race and this is the least fancied. He was an eyecatcher on his return at Haydock, making up loads of ground late in a decent race to finish a length behind Terroomm giving it 3lb. His only other race this season was the Britannia, where he led on the unfavoured far side and finished a length behind Fifth Column, who won on that side. He has a 4lb pull with Fifth Column for a length and that horse is currently 11/2. Fifth Column has run, and won, since, but it is quite possible that saving Afentiko for this is a plus, compared to having another run. When the Cole’s trained on a dual licence they had 13 from 60 (22%) at the course in the last 5 years (+ £28.81 to £1 stake).

I was expecting to tip Toimy Son in this, but David Menuisier has opted to step that one up in trip for a longer race on Saturday, so I’ll put that one on my shortlist for the Cambridgeshire. He does run Tribal Chief in this though. He must have a chance but 9/1 doesn’t seem value on what he has achieved to date. David Menuisier is probably my favourite trainer and he does slowly develop his horses, so it is possible he’d improve to win this. Incidentally, I recall a very fast precocious filly trained by Brian Swift in the mid 70’s who was also called Tribal Chief.

If the forecast rain arrives, I think Rhoscolyn, drawn 3, track-proven mudlover well in on old form, yada, yada, yada, might do rather better than he did today.

I can't get on with Paddy Power, who it turns out aren't quite as bold about taking on punters as their marketing might suggest, but 40/1 six places might start to look alright if it devolves into a bog.

I'm all about flying a kite about rain being on its way at the moment and, if I'm right, Zinc White at 20/1 best is fair in the opener.

I might link some of these quasi soup monsters in multiples so that I can either be very wrong or very right - if I even get a whiff of a related-contingency angle I'm all over it.

Decent plan and it is a very fair price. I did rather fancy Vino Victrix in that race though.

Vino Victrix is definitely well handicapped and definitely likes the track.

But his overall career record doesn't exactly scream: "needs it Soft" to me - I was there the day he won on "Good to Soft" and it walked Good to me and he was only 1.57s outside standard.

If you disagree, you could always put him in instead or perm them - the key IMO is putting in horses who all want the same surface

I did him in this race last year: very disappointing but the firmish ground may have been a factor that day; he seems to prefer it with more juice. Certainly his run behind Manxman over the course in May must put him bang in the picture, I reckon.

After the recent deluges.
Tashakan, first race 12/1.
Lattam, Golden Mile 20/1.
King George Sprint. Manaccan at a tasty 125/1.
Latham was a bit longer yesterday, so others must fancy him too.

I backed Manaccan at that price too. I recall DO mentioning him, I think at Royal Ascot, when he hadn’t run for over 2 years. He travelled surprisingly well in that, looking like he may be involved 2f out, before fading and ended up in last. Another poor run next time, but if he retains his ability, could run well. My main fancy is Kerdos, now 14/1 from 20/1. Asfoora 2/1 likely to drift significantly if ground ends up heavy (which it now is).

12/1 best now - just a word of advance warning that Your Favourite Uncle Smart Arse will be even more insufferable than usual if this one goes in. 😂

Spoke to one of Rhoscolyn's owners yesterday and they didn't fancy him at all due to the ground not being soft enough yesterday.....

One of the Dixon Brothers (key part of Horse Watchers) said the same on Racing TV yesterday, saying that though he had won on GF earlier in his career, he probably needs it soft these days.

And Zinc White now 9/1 from 20/1!
After two blew out today, I'm left with it in an each-way double with Rhoscolyn at 20/1 and 33/1 respectively.

I've got Vino Victrix (really not as sure about him on the ground tbh) with Rhoscolyn in an each-way double at 16/1 and 33/1 for less.

The weather forecast I find most reliable has quite a bit of rain for Goodwood in the next 4 hours, could be very soft for the next couple of days, and may get dead ground by Saturday.

Got yourself a right position in the mile Outsider best of luck mate. I can't get on with PP who were 40's Rhoscoyln in a huff not being able to get 40's 33/1 just wasn't good enough .....11/1 best price now.

I've organised 40/1 and 33/1 Rhoscolyn on his own and as stated above got him in each-way doubles with Zinc White (20/1) and Vino Victrix (16/1) - also bet on their own - in the opener.

I won't by any means be copping the lot, or even having it right off, as the first two legs of my six-figure soup monster multiple blew out, but if one or both go in I'm liable to be in narcissistic overdrive for days, so I'd advise logging off TH and going for a walk - a long one. 😂

I think I'll just get some bets on this evening and fvck off out for the day. It's been the worst meeting for me I can remember, not necessarily financially, because I've not backed much, but my ratings just aren't being reflected in the results and that is always a concern.

Vino Victrix is handicapped to run well, but he's never done any good in this contest and the Cesarewitch might be more his race.

Tbh, I'm now unsure if the ground will be testing enough for my bets tomorrow.

In "The Godfather," Sollozo cursed his luck when Vito Corleone survived five gun shot wounds.

I know how he feels - 29mm of rain and it might be only Good to Soft....I just can't cop a break! 😂

Don’t forget the old saying ‘form is temporary class is permanent’.

I’m sure you’ll soon be back on form and knocking in the winners.

Enjoy your day out.
