The 2025 Kerry National (Handicap Chase)

Drying out from heavy and it dries slowly Fealeside this time of year.
When you see them running a mile in 1m 47 sec it says enough.
Horses for courses in Kerry always, check out the O'Donnell horse that won today .
L'Escargot never managed to win a Kerry National in 3 attempts.
And he won again today… handy enough

Yes, I envisage you usually want a prominent racer for this.

This would stand against Light N Strike who is usually held up.

I think his race will either go one of two ways.

He'll be held up again, taken off his feet and start making mistakes, pulled up and kept back for a crack at the Summer Plate next summer at Market Rasen.

Or... he's actually worth his mark of 138 in this, having showed solid form and progression in England over a variety of distances. Micky Bowen can get a few more pounds out of him. They go too fast up front and cut each other's throats, and he weaves his way through the pack as the race goes on.

At around 20/1 I'll risk a few kopeks.

San Salvador is worth a win only bet too.

This is going to be an absolutely cracking contest - the sort of race that makes me proud to (pretend to) be Irish.

I'm off to Tesco tomorrow to buy some Kerrygold Butter for my toast to mark the occasion - I know how to live!

Some good money for him this morn. Just a worry what you said earlier about been up with the pace, think JJ will be holding this fella up

It's been a very static market. Perhaps that will change come post time.

★★★★★ Spanish Harlem (11/1) A near-perfect profile for this contest. Rated 139 and carrying 11-1, he lands in the historical sweet spot for OR and weight. His RPR of 157 shows he has already run to a mark capable of winning this. Mullins has long believed there is a big handicap in him, and this trip looks exactly what he needs after shaping strongly in the Bet365 Gold Cup. Trainer form is red hot (38% last 14d), ensuring confidence he will be tuned to the minute. Danny Mullins is winless in recent weeks, which is a minor worry, but the stable’s momentum outweighs it. Crucially, his prominent style should see him well placed around Listowel. Clear top pick on trends, form, and trainer profile.

giddy up

Luckily I backed him ew on tote owing to the "Danny Factor"
Had French Dynamite ew with a reverse exacta the duo so was shouting in earnest when San Salvador fell.
They kept the grass long on course which helped the going and the track was drying all week while still holding.
Queally's First race winner is some tool; 3m59 on that track, 8 seconds faster than Davy Crockett is some performance.
Eoin McCarthy got in on the act backing his winner from 66s to 16s.
The Mare's chase winner Cloonainra is by Financial Reward , a former WPM trained decent juvenile hurdler and graded Novice chase winner that won on the flat in Lovely Listowel 2006.
Rarely do you see a non APOB Listowel winner siring another one.
Great crowd, lovely weather and rose tinted glasses all around.
P.S. One small quibble; an ambulance drives through the crowd before every race to access the racecourse .
There has to be a better way on a busy raceday.
