The 2025 Paddy Power Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

Just a little to add on Panic Attack - SHE is a mare (hence winning a Mares hurdle at Cheltenham which was a good performance). She's also obviously had a leg problem as she has a gap of 649 days before moving yards to Dan Skelton's. Normally I avoid those who have had problems but if you are going to make a comeback from that sort of injury, then two years off instead of one, is much better in my opinion so that will counter the argument of her being 9 and only having run in 5 chases.
Since being moved to Skelton's they haven't employed the blinkers which improved her form to win the hurdle here. I will be interested to see if they are back on on Satuday. Also after her win at Warwick, they dropped her back into a hurdle race. Why? To protect her chase mark, I suspect. The worry is that she didn't run again afterwards but 'Arry has chosen to ride her.

Danny

stable tour...
He ran really well on his reappearance in a 3m1f handicap chase at
Cheltenham. He travelled into it like he was going to win and I can't say he
blew up because we'd done a good bit with him at home, so I have to think he
just didn't stay. We'll drop him back in trip next time and I think there could
be a good prize heading his way

Hoe Joly Smoke is a contender to be in my by-now traditional and universally-"loved" (or was that "loathed" or simply "laughed" at?) Big Saturday Handicap Exacta/Forecast/Tricast/Trifecta combo.

I take it thats how joly smoke ?

Can't see the argument for holy Joe smoke not staying when he has won over 3m.
I've done riskintheground and hope they don't have much rain.
Went up 3lb for winning but Tristan takes off 3lb so basically runs off the same mark.
Took 20s.

I can't help thinking that if HJS was targeting this Harry would be riding. When I saw it last time I admit I thought it blew up and maybe the Hennessy was the plan but it isn't entered at Newbury.

I'm not sure why they'd expressed doubts about its stamina when its career best form is at 3m and more.

It has two wins at 3m at Sandown so maybe something there is the plan or the mega race at Kempton in February.

BTW, I saw a headline last week from Skelton saying 'we'll work back from the County Hurdle' but I don't see that comment in any stable tour. Which horse was it?

Who made the argument for him not staying ? You talking about the paddy power trip or last time out when he was keen for a way and didnt quite get home over the extended 3 at Cheltenham. No worries about him staying the trip here its more whether he can go the clip.

Ah was it in Skeltons quote. Staying a trip is all relative any horse can get 3 miles it'll just do so in its own time but that's a discussion for another day.

No mention of the County in the ATR stable tour:

"He is just getting a bit keen in his races which he was doing last year in his Listed bumper. The run at Uttoxeter the other day will have done him well and he will go for a Grade 2 at the Cheltenham October Meeting. We will see where the season takes us."

First handicap mark is 124. Last year 127 scraped in at the bottom of the weights in the County so it won't be too difficult a mark to protect.

To commemorate this great race, here's the 1982 renewal in which Walsworth was rumoured to have not only staked his shirt, but his entire wardrobe (yes, both shirts), on Artifice:

some do, some don't , I find it quite useful for some races as just another factor to consider

of course it being something you can't do it's obviously shit and/or already factored into the market

It's something I don't need to do because it's not valuable.

Without studying at all, I've taken 50/1 Issar D'Airy (I believe it's a full brother to Co-op D'Airy).

It's top on RPRs so must be at least reasonably handicapped. It's currently looking like being 4lbs out of the handicap but the yard has used Freddie Mitchell's 5lbs claim to good effect this season and I presume they're trying to get him to ride. He can do the weight.

I thought it worth having onside at this stage anyway.

The weights have gone up, Id'A has gone up to 10-7 and Mitchell will indeed take 5lbs off. I can still live with the bet.
