The 2025 PJ Towey Construction Handicap

Galeron would have a chance on his Lincoln run
Galeron, now on an 8lb lower mark than in the Lincoln, hasn't had his ideal conditions (1m, cut) since and his trainer has a fair record at this meeting.

I wouldn't be surprised if this has been the target race for Galeron ever since and he really didn't run too badly over an inadequate 7f at Sandown Park last time out.

There's others in the race I like too and I haven't had a bet yet - none of them jocked up, can't be doing with backing non-runners - but Galeron is definitely on my shortlist for this.

Now he's jocked up, I can say I expect a good run from Bopedro - even though he's almost as old as me - in this and the 20/1 with Hills is fair.

He's always vulnerable to bumping into one, but he can go close off this mark in what promise to be optimal conditions for him.

Got him in my mind for the Balmoral. I suppose the trainer will turn up mob handed for that race.
As you say though. Handicapped to go well here.

Bopedro is of course a favourite of mine and it shows how fast time goes as its 5 years since I put it up to win the Irish Lincoln at 33/1.
Took 20s boosted to 22/1.

Same. Dashing Darcey and Walson's Law. The latter needs a fast surface and the ground isn't ideal at the moment. The former really interests me. Has the beating imo of Great Chieftain based on their run at Haydock earlier in the year and he was gelded after a poor run over 7 at York where he was predictably completely outpaced (poor entry.)

The old boy has been declared and I think what beats him wins it.

Galeron SMASHED and 10/1 best now.

I'm currently being held on remand, having been apprehended for burgling 20/1 earlier in the week.

Walsworth was meant to show up with my bail-bond hours ago.

Same. I'm a bit concerned about the ground though. Looked to be verging on good, until that shower in the late afternoon. Drying day forecast tomorrow

Which is it,you haven't had a bet yet because you don't like backing NRs
Or I burglared 20/1.
I burgled a bit of 20/1 Galeron, I waited with Bopedro and only properly bet him tonight and I did a bit on Treasure Time (didn't actually fancy him, just thought the price might collapse) who isn't even running - do as I say and not as I do as my failure to practise what I preach is sometimes chronic!

"Failure to practise what I preach".

Reminds me of when I said Go Dante was a lively contender for a Imperial Cup repeat at Sandown after his run in the Scweppes at Newbury, (DO used to call it that didn't he, where is DO by the way, is he okay?), only to well and truly talk myself into backing something else nearer the time.

Overthinking does one in sometimes, but I digress...

Tbf to myself, I'm fairly good at practising what I preach most of the time.

It's when I decide I'm not getting heavily involved that I break my own rules.

I hate losing money ante-post but, when I'm betting minimum stakes, I'll fly a kite.

When I say I burgled a bit of 20/1 Galeron the operative word is "bit" - only bet it small - and any value I got is negated because I bet a horse too that I didn't even fancy because I thought it would shorten - and it's not even running!

I have no idea where Maurice has gone, but I haven't seen a spreadsheet, a link to a Simon Rowlands article or an account of what the Celtic FC squad had for breakfast in ages!

Hopefully he will return in due course.

He’s taking a sabbatical, Ian, I think he’s a bit disenchanted by the often unfathomable results in big handicaps which has made him a bit cynical about whether there’s a spirit level on the playing field. Might be back for the jumps (hopefully).
