The 2025 PJ Towey Construction Handicap

Supposed to be some rain overnight i think and some may hit tomorrow afternoon but it may come too late to have an effect on the early races. Galeron is on my shortlist along with Atlantic gamble who definitely wouldn't mind a bit more rain. If they got plenty of rain I think Principality also would hold a chance if coming out of the stalls he'd be the second drop out merchant on the list for tomorrow. Again im quite happy to wait for the going stick reads before making any final decisions this week and I wouldn't mind at all seeing a 5.something.

couldn't get 20/1 like Uncle Smart Arse
I've got next to nothing on it at the 20s and and any value I had was lost by falling for Treasure Time (thankfully small too) who is a NR.

Fwiw I think the ground will end up Good and there may be a headwind favouring horses who are held up, get cover and are delivered late.

Just as an aside, when I first went to this meeting in 1978 this was a 7f handicap and, stood in that old Silver Ring stand with the clock with my Dad, I couldn't actually believe how fast they were going or how many were still in contention at the furlong pole.

Flat track and better horses than at Beverley with its uphill finish and perennial no-nonsense, get to the front below the distance tactics, I guess.

I bet the winner, Greenhill God, produced late by Paul Cook, but bet him under the odds as I took 8s and he returned 10/1.

It was the start of a glorious sunny St Leger Day all those years ago,

Happy St Leger Day, everyone!

6.3 today, same as yesterday, and tbh, looking at the times yesterday, and bearing in mind they were running into a headwind, I think it's pretty much Good ground.

Wouldn't put you off Atlantic Gamble, though - it's from a yard I monitor and it's a horse I've monitored and I think owner "Badger" and his entourage will be off for a jolly Saturday Classic Day Out, "oop Norf" and they'll probably all be on it each-way.

Races like this are a big deal to middling outfits like Knight's - it'll probably be off for its life today.

Yeah i thought so but the lack of rain has tempered my enthusiasm so it'll just be some small bets today. You've worked a good few positions yourself Ian so hope a few of them come to fruition for you. Think you'd have to be very unlucky today to get out of it without a healthy profit.

Outsider aswell for that matter.

Thanks, Danny, fascinating race - maybe a bit TOO fascinating from a betting angle - and of course there's the elephant in the room, the one they could all end up having "bumped into one" in the shape of a progressive 3yo jolly.

And so it came to pass that, on the 13th day, at the Holy St Leger, with no D, meeting, in the opening equine feast...they all bumped into one.
