The 2025 Racing League

Noodle Mission 6.15.
Fantasy Believer 8.15, look to me as they might brought to peak for repeat wins.
Looking fwd to see what prices they are.
Noticed Rohaan slumming it here. Ex 116 horse.

Good question IMO.

If it was still Fibressnd, it would be unique to Southwell and that would create an extra course specialist edge, which is the sort of thing I like.

But I can live with Tapeta, the Northern (Newcastle) and Midlands (also Wolverhampton) surface, as opposed to those soft southern Polytrack Park (Kempton and Lingfield) Life lads plus those The Way Is Essex boys at Chelmsford City.

Ok, I need to get to the bottom of this.

Bill Arrowsmith, a bookmaker friend of my Dad's, came from the area and he called it "South Well."

And I'm told Hayley Turner is from the area too and also calls it "South Well" and that only the outsiders in the racing media say "Suthell."

But earlier in the thread reet hard said locals say "Suthell" too.

Is reet right?

Maybe reet is from the area too?

I need to know the definitive answer to all this by Thursday!

This is the definitive thread on how to pronounce Suthell.

“Southwell can be pronounced either as "Suth-ell" or "South-well," with the choice often depending on whether you are a local resident or an outsider. Residents typically pronounce it with a silent 'w' and a voiced 'th' as in "Suth-ell," while non-residents, and some locals who wish to sound "posh," tend to pronounce it more like the written spelling, "South-well". “

So, as you’re a toff, Ian, go with South-Well

The Hyacinth Bucket syndrome.
Exactly,Slim - pompous pricks and presssmen say South WelL the vast mJority of others don't.
ps;I live 30 minutes away, worked 10 yearrs in the next village.was a member at the racetrack and the locaLgolf club,so have some experience of the dialect.

I'm Black country well more yam yam way really so I'll drop a third and final pronounciation in there and correct you all as Black country is of course the proper English language.

One actually should pronounce it "Suvull" which for me cures all problems as its very similar to the common mans "Suthell" yet some how seems more exotic as "Suvull" is very much similar to "Seville" ( well it has a "v" in it ). Now this may sound like madness but once the similarity is seen it cant be unseen. Hopefully next time your at Suvull freezing your chuds off in mid December gripping onto your hot chocolate for dear life then its almost going to feel like your sipping cocktails by the side of the Guadalquivir in mid July.

I seem to recall John Gosden on TV correcting one of the presenters stating the correct pronunciation was South Well as everyone knows the cathedral is pronounced that way.
So you're in good company Ian.
This is AWFUL - I have never knowingly agreed with Gosden on ANYTHING.

In truth, I thought all this was the other way round, my Dad's bookie mate was from a working class background and local Hayley Turner can hardly be called "posh," whatever people might think of her, and they both called it "South Well."

I thought "Suthell" was a media-invented affectation.

But reet and others say it's the other way around and the link to the thread from slim suggests opinion is divided on the subject.

I'm actually horrified I might be in the Gosden camp on this - it's put me right off my breakfast!

The most annoying thing about all this is that "Leafy" has been calling it "Suthell" for years and I used to say that's just what I'd expect from a "dahn sarf" Home Counties Wide Boy living in Surrey and I've just had to admit to him he might have been right all along - FML!

I just took a quick look at the races on the bf exchange and there is not a lot going on but in the last race Paddy's day (generally 10s) was 17.5.17 and 15.5 to small money so I took the lot.now 5.3
Hope it dont drift.and of course it still has to win which is the hard part.
