The 2025 Royal Ascot Friday Thread

Thanks for the advice all. Amiloc came in for me thankfully and that was my biggest bet of the day, so I was only £10 down in the end.

I'm here tomorrow too, so I will enjoy this evening and look forward to another great day tomorrow. 😊

Context n nuance is key. Thing change daily !
Who knows what will happen tomorrow 🤔

I literally said before the week started that draw bias is not an angle because it changes every day. Uncle Aftertime now wants to pretend he called it.

💯% - as stated this morning after that set of results yesterday there was always a chance the CoC would take action.

And yes, "none of us knows what the new day will bring," but that's enough paraphrasing Lord Of The Rings. 😂

Coo, it ain’t arf ‘ot, mum.

It was a pity that my main bet Jacknife was pulled yesterday and I fear that same might befall Amiloc today if it firms up more by race time. In any event, I’m sticking with a half bet and not adding.

“He hated the ground”, according to Rossa Ryan and I doubt we’ll see him without juice in the ground in future. Had a hard race.

You nailed it so hard, yet not one winner backed.

We were lead that way by Uncle. Hopefully he's made it pay. Now that's an " edge "😆
Some of us have been here a very long time and and now clearly remember the past even if we were briefly led astray.

And now I take comfort that the ignore button is a wonderful thing.

Question: What does tied-up mean in this context?

Midfield on outside, ridden 2f out, stayed on final furlong, nearest finish (post-race vet exam revealed that the horse had tied up, and he received treatment on course accordingly)

It's called Azoturia.
It's when their muscles cramp and stiffens and can be painful.
It can happen for several reasons. Often referred to as Monday Morning disease as trainers still used to feed same feed over the weekend when the horse had a “day off” on a Sunday so you got a build up of proteins or is it carbs? Anyway horse would go out and canter like normal on a Monday and cramp up. It can be quite damaging to a horses muscles too. The old method was to “keep ‘em walking” so they don’t cramp but if it’s bad, it can be better to not do that and get a muscle relaxant in to them.

It can also happen more with fillies so could be hormonal.

My horses suffered badly when I was training but it was caused by a water supply issue that my landlords just happened to fail to tell me about for FOUR years! (they had a water filter on their supply but mine was from the contaminated source 100yds down the lane in their bottom yard). My horses were very badly affected by the high nitrates in this water and I had some awful cases of them tying up. Jim Old had the same happen to him which he told me about when we met.

Out of interest which horse was this above?

in the days of workhorses it was known as "monday morning disease ".
From being inactive over the weekend while on a full diet a horse may develop muscle acidosis and tie up.
Usually lactic acid build up in muscle tissue .
anyways treatment to lower acidity coupled with very light exercise can see the animal right.
Tom Hogan had a handicapper he inherited from UK six years ago; the worst case of tying up I ever witnessed; he literally could not one foot in front of the other, came back to win 3 races at good odds; 50/1; 33/1 and 7/2 .
A Curragh vet told Tom he must have used a mix of Lourdes, Lough Derg, Knock , Fatima and Medugorge holy water for the miracle that occurred.
I see Jinnyj beat me to it; fair dues.

Is it possible I'm taking too many carbs or proteins?

I'd be very surprised because I eat like a jockey because I only need to look at food to put on weight.

Morning all,

Day 2 for me today. I'm in the Village Enclosure today, which is in the middle of the course for a different experience.

My selections so far are:

Treanmor
Ghostwriter
Inisherin
Comanche Brave
Saint Lawrence
Roosevelt
Sober

I was lucky to come away only £10 down yesterday, so hopefully I have a much better day today.

Good luck everyone.

Just as an aside, what are the perks and/or privileges of beng the owner of a horse running at the meeting?

Free entry? Hospitality? Parking? BJ off Charlotte Hawkins?

All bar the latter I suspect....which is a little below the belt (no pun intended)

From what I remember they are very decent with ticket allocations to owners.
I took my late sister for her 50th birthday the day Eddie Harty ran Baron Del in 2009.
He asked me if I was okay for tickets etc a few days before the race.
Like a plank I said that I was....
