The 2025 Topham Handicap Chase

Been looking at the Red Rum chase on Friday. Last years runaway winner, Sans Bruit is off the same mark here. 130. Cobden already booked. Hills ( only them ) go 10s.
Waiting for an upturn in stable form. 2 in at Ascot Sunday. They run well, or win, I may be tempted.

I've done my first trawl of the race and am pleased to see how the betting is shaping up.

I have a very long list of fanciable types, several of which won't make the cut anyway but of the others the shortest in the betting is 16/1 and the longest 66s.

It would be very helpful if a lot of the list are scratched tomorrow!

Took 14s Skybet. Very rare they go bigger than the rest !

I'd like to know if you give Marble Sands a good chance, DO. Especially the form you are in!

He was my old namesake and given I haven't put up a winner as the right honourable Fortune Teller yet I figure I should back him.

Sans Bruit 14/1 (Sky) - Red Rum Handicap Chase

Off the same mark (130) as last year's comfortable win. Nicholls says he comes alive in spring. Has excuses for last 2 runs. Didn't stay 2m4f and Nicholls said pre-Chepstow it was an "ideal prep ahead of another tilt at Aintree". Has some decent early season form (on good ground), not far behind Djelo and JPR One who have run well since. Also 3rd behind Kotmask at Ascot who won on next run. Been treated nicely by the handicapper. Brits have a good record in this too. If he produces a performance close to last year's, or either of his first 2 starts this season, he'll go very close, and I'd be surprised if he wasn't a single price on the day.

I would imagine many associate Ginny's Destiny (20/1 generally) with a Cheltenham hat-trick last season, but bitter disappointment this season.

But he's now 7lb down the weights, I thought he ran a better race in the old Mildmay Of Flete, he performed well enough over the Mildmay Course last year and he's sure to stay this trip.

Harry Cobden is already jocked up and, if declared on Wednesday morning, he may well carry some of my money.

Ginny's Destiny was my starting point for this race too. Disappointed Riann wasn't declared. Excello sneaking in at the bottom may also be of interest - I thought he was going to be better than a 132 horse when he first came over from France.

Elsewhere, I think someone mentioned French Dynamite for a race at Aintree. He would have a decent chance if recapturing old form. Mouse Morris is always of interest when bringing one over.

Though he wouldn't exactly be a moral certainty to get the trip, the 33/1 Gentleman Du Mee with Bet365 is too big if you can get on.

A mark of OR155 is lenient on old form for this one-time Champion Chase runner up, who seems a bit of a spring horse and gave Edwardstone a good kicking over the Mildmay Course a few years ago.

Still only a 9yo, one has had to add him to Ginny's Destiny in one's Tophamfolio.

Regarding whether he can stay, this is confirmation bias on my part because I already wanted to back him, but I think it's a plus that he stayed 2m+ over hurdles as a 3yo in France.

Eldorado Allen Topham
Ran well for a long way in last years Grand National before weakening late on.
Is now 8lbs lower in the handicap and the drop in distance looks ideal
Currently 33/1 Ladbrokes /Coral.

I have added Excello at 16/1 for this race.
Carries a nice low weight and N Henderson has won this 5 times in the past.
I have had a small e/way on EA, but this will be my main bet in the race.
