Only gave it a cursory glance as I was waiting on phone call (about being interviewed for the next Celtic manager's job) but at least I was right. It was Gewon or something like that.

O'Brien also wanted YFUSA's input on who to run in this.

"Run Gstaad if you want to, but I wouldn't bet that for the Guineas with your money. You left the 2,000 Guineas behind at the Breeders' Cup. And why would you beat Gewan who did you fair and square in the Dewhurst? Puerto Rico's had enough racing too, but he didn't get sent Stateside and he's your best chance. But tbh, your grip on this race has loosened - when did you last train the winner of it?"

The two most significant trial/prep/pointer races are winners coming from :-
Newmarket Dewhurst Flat Stakes 7f Group1 in Oct
Doncaster Futurity Trophy Flat Stakes 1m Group1 in Oct

I would hazard a guess that an already useful colt who is bred to improve from two to three has been working well.

That and the trainer's decision to stand for the Green Party at the local elections.

(Part of this posting might not be true).
Surprised that Johnny G has never won the Guineas. Probably wonders how with Kingman, Field Of Gold, Roaring Lion etc. Also dodged it with Palace Pier in favour of an All-Weather race at Newcastle.

It must be the yard's recent record in the race.
"In terms of speed, I don't think we've ever had a horse as quick."

So much to like about this statement from Aidan O'Brien (or "Aiden" to his hordes of adoring groupies who call a bloke - who wouldn't cross the road to do the proverbial on them if they were on fire a by his furst name as if they were "besties," while simultaneously contriving to misspell it).

In what other terms other than speed can a horse be quick?

Anyway, sounds like a July Cup horse and, judging by The Curragh yesterday, he should just about have it fit by then.

The Coolmore Classic flannel is well underway - it's officially Spring!

You bet your Ass I am going to try and go to the 2000 Guineas

I first went in 1982 and arrived at Newmarket on the Wednesday night in the pitch dark.

Woke up to find me, my long-suffering friend Mike and his tent were on someone's drive.

Went in 1983 and again Mike pitched (I have never done manual labour) his tent in pitch dark, but this time fairly adjacent the Rowley Mile.

Was woken at dawn to be told I was on a gallop and there were 70 horses coming through in five minutes.

Slept in a laundrette the rest of the meeting.

And in 1984 I just roughed it entirely - no tent at all - but it was worth it because I got to see El Gran Senor win the then best renewal since Brigadier Gerard beat Mill Reef and My Swallow.

Look it up, respect the past (I researched Tudor Minstrel at your age).

Anyway, I expect even better stories from our resident former environmental services executive - I shall be gravely disappointed if you fail to attend and deliver them.

Until they run in the guineas nobody knows how well they have trained on or if at all. Coolmore dont seem to have the guineas as their main target and have much better recent record in the french and irish versions. Sounds like they hope he will stay but has to be a huge doubt. Id go with puerto rico. Really good horse. Consistent, tough and kept imoroving throughout the season.

The last six winners of the 2,000 Guineas were not trained by O'Brien.

Some will say that doesn't matter, but some who say that may have said the same thing before City Of Troy and Auguste Rodin ran dismally in it.

Of course, the yard can still win it - their overall record in it is sound - but Albert Einstein is a first foal of a speedy dam and hasn't been sighted since a couple of 6f wins last May.

I couldn't begin to care about the usual O'Brien flannel on behalf of his employers aimed at the breeding industry and I couldn't care less if anyone's "man in the yard" says the horse is beating Ferraris on the gallops giving them two stone - he can 💯% win the 2,000 Guineas without my money on him.
