The 2026 Cheltenham Gold Cup

5/1 Betfred
7/2 General

Gaelic Warrior looks a right price at 7/1 if you believe that Paul Townend would do the right thing.

Not a scooby he gets off Galopin.

Patrick will have this ride. Gaelic goes Ryanair if they send F2F to Gold Cup anyway

Well he is a horse that runs well when fresh so if ground against him for The Denman, Chase don't blame them.

Some horses function way better at certain times of the year. Inothewayurthinkin has 3 chase runs in March/April - Won Kim Muir: won The Mildmay: Won the Gold Cup.

He was supplemented late last year after 'blooming' at home and was well backed. Looks like he is coming to hand again and will go there with zero tough races on the clock.

Yep fully agree. I think if fact to file heads to the ryanair, it's a vote of confidence in Inothewayurthinkin by JP et al.

Speculative given his trainig issues over the years, but Affordale Fury seems the forgotten horse and an attractive bet at 33s nrnb. He was very well backed when winning The Savills, suggesting connections knew that despite no proof he was up to that class, they have a very good horse.

Next time at Leopardstown he set out again to make all, jumping well, until dropping away quickly four out. Came back lame, and if you accept that as an excuse, it's easy to justify taking 33s, especially when it is assumed that, unless back in that sparkling home form pre Savills, he won’t run.

Was a bloody awful Gold Cup last year with hindsight - only 9 runners as well
Could be a classic this year. Best race of the week for me.

The Ryanair on the other hand I have as 5 runners absolute max this year. Absolutely desperate race.

But if they have away with it it’ll only be replaced with another handicap anyway which no-one wants.

Inothewayurthinkin has now been punted into 8/1 on the exchange for the Gold Cup! Madness. Could easily go off as favourite at this rate

I have a lot of respect for JP but I think it would be terrible for the sport if this horse was to win.
Nothing short of criminal.

We all knew it was going to happen like, just doesn’t make it right. Someone at one of the previews said they watched him work like a trojan at Punchestown i think it was. Moneys been coming since

Inothewayurthinkin backed for Cheltenham Gold Cup defence as Gavin Cromwell reveals promising recent work

Reigning champion 'hasn't missed a beat' since Irish Gold Cup fall and 'will take plenty of beating if on his A game

Inothewayurthinkin has been cut for the Cheltenham Gold Cup despite a disastrous season, with Gavin Cromwell revealing the defending champion impressed in recent work at Fairyhouse and could "take plenty of beating if he is on his A game".

The eight-year-old got the better of Galopin Des Champs to win the Cheltenham Festival's biggest prize last March, but has been nowhere near that level in three starts this season. He was beaten 53 lengths at Punchestown on his John Durkan comeback, 41 lengths at Leopardstown over Christmas and then fell at the Dublin track in the Irish Gold Cup.

His latest disappointment at Leopardstown prompted Cromwell to suggest he could miss his Cheltenham defence, but the vibes have changed in recent days and the market has reacted accordingly. He is available at 10-1 and has been cut by most bookmakers, having been as big as 18-1 in the middle of the month.

Cromwell said: "Inothewayurthinkin did a bit of work after racing in Fairyhouse last week and that went very well. It’s difficult to know why he’s underperformed so much this season, but I suppose the yard hasn’t had the season we would have wished for. Horses have underperformed and he’s the one that’s really highlighted it.

"I was happy enough with his run in the John Durkan. He was beaten a long way but it was a funny race, they went helter-skelter and he was flat to the boards all the way, but he jumped really well and stayed going well.

“Christmas was a disaster. He didn’t show up at all and we were on the back foot after that. At the Dublin Racing Festival he had run an okay race down to the second last. He got a bit tired up the straight, but I didn’t mind that so much – it was just a disaster when he fell. Since that, he hasn’t missed a beat. He got up from that fall and hasn’t turned back."

Owned by JP McManus, Inothewayurthinkin has peaked for the spring in his last two seasons, winning the Kim Muir as 13-8 favourite in 2024 and following up with his first Grade 1 at Aintree, and Cromwell has wondered whether he could just be "a real spring horse".

Speaking on William Hill's Inside Track: Ireland podcast, Cromwell added: "He’s one more bit of work to do before he goes to Cheltenham, so hopefully that’ll be good. We haven’t done anything differently with him, but you can see his coat has come now. When you look back at his history, he seems to be a real spring horse. Maybe that’s the case. I don’t think he’d want it heavy, but he wouldn’t want good ground too. He’s not the quickest horse and I wouldn’t want him taken off his feet.

“You can make a case for plenty in the race, but if Inothewayurthinkin is on his A game, he’s going to take plenty of beating. He was a good winner of the race last year and hopefully we can get him there in the same condition.”
