The 2026 "Friday Night Live" Thread

This tremendous card (and event) gets underway at 4.30pm tomorrow with the first of seven races on ITV4 at 5.30pm.

Walsworth will be setting off at dawn from Hertfordshire on the Penny Farthing he's leasing off me and it's been calculated he should arrive at Gosforth Park just after they've weighed in for, err, the Eider later in the month.

Weather forecast for this card - temperature six degrees but wind chill will make it feel like two degrees, rain.

And, as astute students of the Calendar will have observed, it's February.

Perfect party weather and time of year.

They call this Invades fella an "entrepreneur."

Gigolo has already put it up but I can pass on good word for Badri 14/1 in the 7.00 Newcastle.

5.30
Having difficulty trying to solve this one. Would therefore usually watch but taking a sporting small stake ew pop on both Born a Rebel and Lerwick.

Andy's tearing it up on the Tapeta - if you've not just loving all this there's something fundamentally wrong with you!

Roll on, the 7.00 at Gosforth Park!
I hope someone from ITV is reading your spirited pep rallying... I think you're lined up for a job as MC next time.
Go Friday nights, yeah!

They couldn't afford me - no one can afford me, please don't presume to think anyone ever could.

Thanks in advance.

What a cracking card this is proving to be!

Two more epics (8.00 & 8.30) to go!

The joint is rammed, apparently!

Predictable reaction to this event on racing social media.

I'm starting to think my generation (Boomers) are possibly the most self-centred generation in history.

If any product isn't tailored specifically for them, they don't think it should exist.

They also think racing should be turned into some sort of turgid degree course and that casual, one-off, young racegoers are to be shunned.

Oh, and the "My Little Pony" equestrian brigade think racing should be conducted in library silence for fear of upsetting our four-legged friends (who were bred to race in front of a crowd).

I found it amusing, entertaining, and harmless.

Roll on, the Rolleston venue - and Constitution Hill on Tapeta!

The entries for Friday at South Well/Suthell have been made, they are frankly stupendous, and negative thoughts and comments are banned!

Roll on Wednesday morning!

I cannot be alone in thinking the average young adult, lured by Invades to sample the giddy delights of Southwell on a Friday evening, couldn't actually care less whether Constitution Hill runs or not.

++++BREAKING NEWS++++

Walsworth, who's never been that keen on Nicky Henderson on the grounds that he doubts if Henderson has ever read The Morning Star, has found an ancient, arcane, rule that enables him to supplement his "horse" "Penny Farthing" for Friday.

The beast - who frankly bears more than a passing resemblance to an ancient bicycle - is guaranteed a run and apparently takes up several box spaces, reducing the safety factor to eight.

Penny Farthing will be ridden by "W. Alsworth (10)" in his latest bid to impress Megan Nicholls.

Not a bit of it, they will stand gazing in awe at a hurdler well on the way to being crowned the greatest of all time until that crown lay crumpled in the Cheltenham turf. How, they will wonder has it come to this?

Yet there is a twinkle in the eye of the wizard of the burrows whilst he mutters the magic incantation suthelsouthwell and puppy dogs tails allwillbewellinsouthwell.

You could be right, but tbh that innate love of racing wasn't the vibe I was getting off Dante (who I doubt even knew he bore the name of a significant Derby trial, still less the horse the race is named after) or the young lady he was on a speed date with at Newcastle the other day.
